Was it Cedar Point that was only open 5 days/week and had to raise wages to get people to work?

Can you clarify what you’re talking about, Nigel? Im also having trouble following. What’s your position here? Is inflation a problem or not. Is employers having to pay more a problem or not.

Labor shortage forces Cedar Point to shut down 2 days a week

Added a bit of clarifying context for you. Again, the auto assumption that the people that came to work after the pay increase were otherwise just sitting on their ass doing nothing is faulty

The reality of shit wages doesn’t care if you were sitting in your ass doing nothing or not.

Honestly it feels like the real problem isn’t wages, unemployment, unemployed, or inflation. It’s capitalism. It’s designed to always have a poor ot underserved working class dependent on government doing the right thing. And by government I mean elected officials.

Cedar Point may have had a labor shortage due to parents not wanting their high school and college kids working somewhere that (still) might be considered a health risk.

I just thought this was interesting. Sure seems like being unable to fill jobs has less to do with unemployment benefits and more to do with other factors

Of course it does. But the "lazy welfare queen" Republican narrative is so easy to peddle. My step-mom was fully on board with it last time I spoke with her.

Our main restaurant in town that was the hot spot that you are lucky to get a table at on a Friday night is about to call it quits. They are having no luck staffing up and are banking on the benefits ending to get back to full operation. I read a WSJ article recently that noted that most people are just saying get bent to the restaurant industry opting for a career that doesn't involve long hours and low pay.

Shitty hours, low pay, no benefits. If your business model relies on cheap labor subsidized by the govt (food stamps, etc.), you don't really have a viable business model. Sometimes capitalism does work. Adapt or die.

Local Meijer no longer open 24hours. Staffing shortage according to one of the store managers.

They’ve modernized. I gave it a little thought I think if employers just hired more staff to reduce work loads and made the jobs more fun I think that would be a step in the right direction.
