Hatton is an interesting pick. Guy has serious game but his emotions seem to get the best of him. I've always said I've never seen anyone get really pissed off on the golf course and then start playing well. Rahm used to have the same problem. No coincidence he stopped getting angry and became one of the best in the world.

Re: 2022 US Open Championship
Cobra R&D basically fed up with "Never My Fault" DeChambeau. Took him to the wood shed
DeChambeau:
Cobra Tour rep (who caddied for him in Detroit)
Later, DeChambeau issued an apology regarding the post-round comments he made about his driver.
DeChambeau:
“If I can hit it down the middle of the fairway, that's great, but with the driver right now, the driver sucks,” he said afterward. “It’s not a good face for me, and we’re still trying to figure out how to make it good on the mis-hits. I’m living on the razor’s edge, like I’ve told people for a long time.”
Cobra Tour rep (who caddied for him in Detroit)
“Everybody is bending over backwards. We’ve got multiple guys in R&D who are CAD’ing (computer-aided design) this and CAD-ing that, trying to get this and that into the pipeline faster,” Schomin told the website. “It’s just really, really painful when he says something that stupid.”
Schomin said that Cobra has made DeChambeau seven prototype heads this year, but that “he has never really been happy, ever. Like, it’s very rare where he’s happy.”
Later, DeChambeau issued an apology regarding the post-round comments he made about his driver.

Like to see King Louie pull it off (even though I didn't bet on him when I usually do in a major). Hopefully he doesn't go all Lexi Oosthuizen

Nonsense Turtleneck. There is a reason the best athletes in the world, aka Michael Jordan, can't play worth a shit.Turtleneck wrote:Golf is not a sport.

While I really don’t have an opinion one way or another, it does seem like golf lacks any need for actual strategy, aside from put the ball in the cup and the one with the fewest strokes wins. Or am I forgetting something? That’s an honest question. When I think of the biggest, most popular, and competitive sports, they all seem to have game by game strategies intended to win the games/matches. I’m not trying to denigrate golf because I’ve always enjoyed it, even though I was never very good. I stopped playing first because I was in school and couldn’t afford it. Then, by the time I had extra cash to spend, rounds were in hurry up mode instead of the leisurely-paced afternoons I’d known with my grandpa and uncle. Twenty years ago, Tim Staudt bitched on the radio about slow-pokes like me, as if time on the course should be minimized like a player’s number of strokes. I hurry through things I don’t enjoy, not those moments I like. It took all of the fun out of it.

you're wrong re: strategy, and you can simplify pretty much any "sport" like that.

Re: 2022 US Open Championship
Golf is definitely a sport because there are no judges. Ball in hole with fewest strokes. Like basketball... ball hole most in a time period.
Judged sports are "exhibitions" because people fuck up the results. Not definitive.

Pace of play is an issue Greenway. Part of the problem is people watching the pros checking yardage books, stalking putts at all angles etc. You shouldn't be hurried but my solution is basic: hit it, find it, hit it again. If you can't find it after two minutes, drop.
I can shoot 90 faster than anyone can shoot 65 because I follow my own rule

Re: 2022 US Open Championship
How is hitting a baseball with a wooden club a sport but hitting a golf ball with an iron one not?
I get it. A baseball is thrown at you making it hard to hit. But a golf ball is trying to be hit to a specific target. A baseball can pretty much be hit anywhere in the field of play and out of it for success.
They’re both sports.

Re: 2022 US Open Championship
I think Golf is a sport, but I also think it's more of a skill. Playing the guitar and drumming are skills too. Sport? No, but we all can pick up some drum sticks and a pick and try to play. If we play every day we'll get better, but none of us will become Neil Pert or Jimi Hendrix. Some guys have just a feel for it, a touch, a sight, they're just better at it. Michael Jordan and one point was the worlds greatest athlete. So was Dion Sanders. It's my opinion they coudl play and practice every day of their life and they wouldn't be a Tiger Woods or a Jack Nicklas. Those guys just have "Something" that 99.9% of the people in the world never will have it. Maybe I'm way off.
