Ooooohhh Floyd was so close. No winners this round though, the answer was 2000 Purdue. Drew Brees and his number 9 ranked Boilermakers could have clinched a Rose Bowl Berth with a win at the up and down Bobby Williams coached / Jeff Smoker led Spartans but Brees was not his typical self and the talented but undisciplined Spartans put it all together maybe for the only time that year and sent them home unhappy. Flowers’ TD was in the second half and was the nail in the coffin IIRC.
