Annual Physical

So, recently turned the big 50... figured it was time to get a real physical. Went in today. It lasted all of 5 min. Doc listened to things, looked over the blood work. Then that's it... nothing. (Wait, did schedule a colonoscopy for later..)

I thought the 50 year old one was supposed to include finger up the ass and ekgs and stress tests and all that shit.

So, I my doc retired last year and I got a new PCP in a different office. I was expecting the cough again when I went in August, but he explains the newer school of medical thought is that it's not very effective. He did offer to do it, if I really wanted it, so that gave me a warm & fuzzy about our new relationship.

I get a physical every year. Complete metabolic panel of bloodwork, etc. It's worthwhile.

I actually see a PA for my regular primary care stuff. It's a lady - about my age. I prefer female healthcare professionals. In general, they seem to be better listeners, more patient, etc. She's pretty cool. Does triathlons, we talking mountain biking, running, etc.

my oncologist, on the other hand, is a dude. I think he's the only guy in the entire building where English is his first language. Really cool guy, quite young. Handsome as hell. We talk politics (hope that doesn't offend the fragile types), his wife is a professor at MSU.

anyway, if we have access to affordable healthcare, we owe it to those less fortunate to maximize the hell out of it, while still fighting for them to have access to the same.

go to the doctor, ask questions, follow-up, get second opinions, etc. Things can go downhill quickly if not properly monitored.

Just got back from a doctors appointment myself. Place had the words 'center for the medical arts' in the title.

I know art is subjective but I was completely underwhelmed.
