Ferentz - "Ten game conference schedules are coming"
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/31/kirk-ferentz-says-10-game-conference-schedules-are-coming/
Kirk Ferentz says 10-game conference schedules are coming, at least in the Big Ten.
While making his way through the ESPN car wash on Thursday, Ferentz was asked about conference scheduling when he dropped that thought for all to ponder. Via Brett McMurphy’s Twitter feed;

Hope so. Don't like the unbalanced home away deal. Although that would probably be the end of Big 5 OOC opponents.

I know some teams have 4 home games and others 5, and then it reverses the next year, but I think all the teams in the same division have the same number of home each year. If that's accurate, it's not really unbalanced.
10 conference games is just too many, especially with other teams only playing 8, and the B12 doesn't have a CCG.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say if the BIG goes this route, we won't be the only major conference to do so. Listen to Slive's and Delany's recent interviews. You might hate them, but they are controlling shit right now (including the NCAA). And they are moving toward the major conferences controlling shit (and by shit I mean money) and cutting out the little guys. Which is not good for the Arkansas State's of the world.

I have NO problems with 10 game schedules (means every team gets to play every team at home every 4 years, except IU&PU).
That being said, the ONLY way it happens is if the NCAA allows 13 game schedules. Way too many programs count on 7 home games a year to fund the AD. 10 conference in 12 games means no more big OOC rivalries / games.

This is a good thing. It will increase ratings for tBTN which will result in higher revenue.
This also points to my opinion that we're going to see super conferences that will have the power kick the NCAA to the curb. The next round of expansion will be the nail in the NCAA's coffin.

A 15-game schedule would be ideal. Play the 13 other Big Ten teams and 2 out-of-conference games.

10 conference games + 2 games against small programs like Jacksonville or CMU.
Or... Add in 2 more games to the regular season and another bye week.

Don't be an asshat, dude. Stop with the self imposed idiot emo victim role that you like to play. Look at this like normal people do.
NCAA hoops plays 30+ games in 5 months of their regular season. NCAA football only plays 12 games in their 4 month regular season...then they take 4-6 weeks off to play their post season. There is room to grow in NCAA football. A 14 game regular season is where we should have been for a while now.

I don't like how many games the NFL plays. I like how college football is. Are you really comparing basketball to football right now? I guess if I like how it is now, I am not a normal person.

I get where you were going with that comment. Too much of a good thing and all of that. I can make 6-7 games a year in person. I can reconcile myself if I have to miss a non-conference cup cake. Can I do 8-9? That gets to be a bit much. Plus, if you go from what used to be a 10 or 11 game schedule to a 13 game regular season, plus a conference championship game, and then two national championship games, that's 5 more chances for key players to get hurt and ruin a season.

This is my concern with adding more games. Too many injuries. Same with the NFL. Moving beyond 16 games is silly IMHO.

Re: Ferentz - "Ten game conference schedules are coming"
I'd like to see 4 power conferences each with 16 teams and two divisions. Then make a 15-game regular season schedule with no nonconference games and no conference championship games.
The two division winners in each conference get put in an 8-team playoff at the end of the year. Schools that don't make the playoffs can negotiate one bowl game with whatever opponent they want.

Except of course the legions of critics complaining every year about too many bowl games for too many shitty 6-6 teams. Then it would be a first.

Let's see how the college football playoff goes. Don't fix something that isn't broken. There's a reason every game means so much. NFL? Not so much.

The last thing the nfl wants is a 16 game college schedule. That's 16 more weeks of practice and games kids will have to pay before they ever reach the league. You're taking a year off these guys before they're drafted.

There are enough cup cakes in our own league to make a decent schedule. Why share the wealth with other leagues

Ideal? You would have at least 2 bye weeks in a 15 game schedule. That makes for 17 weeks of regular season football. How is that ideal? You're going to have a quarter of the games when school isn't in session. Would you start the games in the dog days of August, or extend them into the heart of winter?

Also not ideal for average to poor teams who will be playing a half dozen meaningless games in awful weather in 3/4 empty stadiums.Rodeo Burger wrote:
