MSU won a weak Big Ten Conference on a rainy day in Columbus, and a miracle play at the "Pig House". Sagarin had MSU at 22 in it's rankings (predictor). The other three playoff teams were 1-2-3. Alabama had played the 4th toughest schedule in the country....MSU 44th. The strength of MSU held-up well (the D line), but with an offensive line that has been just above mediocre this season, and young backs, we were going to struggle running the ball. So, the weight of this game was on Connor Cook and one consistently reliable receiver...Aaron Burbridge. Alabama would just need to shut him down, which would be easy. Alabama's athleticism speeds-up the game, requiring Cook to make fast decisions.I don't think Connor Cook is a first round draft pick. This was his opportunity to shine, and he looked very pedestrian.

He has specimens in Ridley and Stewart plus the top OL. We knew MSU was average in the secondary. For the most part his guys were wide open although the first half bomb was a beauty.
