In 1972, sure, it mattered, those were the sports that would get on the nightly news and you couldn’t find anything about other sports. So, back in the 90's I was working a camp at MSU for Saban. The student trainers had to do football and pick another sport also. One day after practice we were talking to them in a group, what their work load was etc. Someone asked if they saw the grossest injuries in football. Somebody said, "yes, but you see some tough stuff in lacrosse." Interesting, I thought.

Then you start thinking that hard ball can come out of there at over 110 MPH, you don't have much padding and you're pretty aggressive in some actions, plus the quick cuts etc you have to make, it''s got to be up there.

"Fastest growing sport" requires context. If I make up a sport, and am the only one playing it. Then I talk a friend into playing one day, that sport grew by 100% in a single day!!! Whoa, incredible!!!

In fact, over the last 20 years, I bet Quidditch is the fastest growing sport.

However, "ever" is a long time, so maybe in 50-100 years, who knows? Just look at the changes in the sports landscape 50 years ago, 75 years ago, and 100 years ago. Things change.

Absolutely a Native Americian created sport.

The origins of soccer date back to the 1200s. Though sports involving the kicking of a ball date back over 2000 years to ancient China.
