Geographically speaking, where does the thumb start in Michigan?

We might as well just solve all these geographical questions while we’re getting to it

at the intersection of Chandler and Round Lake Road.

I-75 on the west. I-69 to the south.

I actually worked in the thumb a few years back as a landman. ( oil and gas leases). The movie Promised Land is an accurate depiction of what I was doing.

Anyway, I found the people in the thumb to be pretty cool. Salt of the earth type folk. Granted I was calling on mostly farmers but damn they were nice people. Knock on their door and they invite you in, offer you coffee and pie before they even ask what you want.

Most of the farmers I'm talking about were in their 70's and even 80's. One couple in their 90's. I never got a political vibe form any of them. Hard working nice people. Imagine riding a tractor at 85.

Took a nice kayaking trip to Turnip Rock yesterday, which now that I see this thread, got me thinking. Where does the Thumb end? Is Turnip Rock part of the Thumb. Technically, it's in Lake Huron so it's not appended.
