Re: Interim MSU president six others being sued now in Federal Court obstruction in regards to the Gupta firing
The MSU Board released a board commissioned report on Friday which said that Gupta's resignation from the position of Dean (WTF do people keep calling it a "firing") while he remains a tenured faculty professor was disproportionate to other disciplinary actions for non-reporting. He kept his faculty position, so how dipropionate is it, really. Haven't seen the report, but I would hold the Dean of a college to much higher standards than some visiting instructor.
edit - Unsure how anyone "schemed" to force him to not report something he should have reported.

He was forced to resign. According to him he was informed by MSU that he had resigned.Trapper Gus wrote:The MSU Board released a board commissioned report on Friday which said that Gupta's resignation from the position of Dean (WTF do people keep calling it a "firing") while he remains a tenured faculty professor was disproportionate to other disciplinary actions for non-reporting. I would encourage to at least read a summary of the report. He was dismissed for five reasons, only one of which the investigators found was true. One of the five reasons he was dismissed (he did not perform his own investigation) he should not have done as it violates both MSU policy and Title IX.
The only thing the investigators found was true was that he did not report an infraction. That does not mean he needed to report it - as it was already reported by two other employees.
The scheming was not related to the "non-reporting." His lawsuit alleges that he was removed as Dean because he sought to be named MSU's interim president. The person who fired him (apparently without Stanley's approval) Teresa Woodruff was later named interim president and is seeking to become MSU's permanent president.

Good comments, here is a links to an article which has a link to the report.

One counter comment is that at the time of his "forced resignation as Dean" President Stanley was at MSU, thus there was no reason for Gupta to believe the position was open, thus part of his argument is questionable, or at least shows that he is doing as much political game playing before, during and up to right now regarding trying to gain the Presidency as he is accusing others of doing, and therefore his attacks on others must consider what his interests are.
Also, two issues with the report. First, and the more serious, is that many of the people in the room, so to speak, would not cooperate with the law firm, and thus this report does not necessarily have all the inputs it needs to be a factual as possible. Second is that tBoT is not a unbiased observer here, and their biases could have crept over the fire wall that having an outside firm do the investigations is supposed to prevent.
edit - the report says "valid", not "true" regarding the causes of asking for his resignation, which, regardless of what he says, was his choice. He could have refused and then, possibly, been removed anyway. As the Dean of the Business School, he either knew this or IMO wasn't qualified to be in his position, as anyone in business knows how various forms of termination and contracts work.

I misspoke when I said Gupta sought to be named interim president. He told Woodruff in mid-June of 2022 that he would like to someday become MSU's president. Stanley named both Gupta and Woodruff (and a few others) as a people who might succeed him as president when asked by the BOT about his succession plan at a retreat on June 22-24.Trapper Gus wrote:MSU addict wrote:

It is frustrating that several people, including Stanley, refused to speak with the investigators. But that is why you end up in court, where people are compelled to give depositions under oath.

Re: Interim MSU president six others being sued now in Federal Court obstruction in regards to the Gupta firing
The accountant who was BOT chair had an agenda when Gupta was in the crosshairs. (I think Gupta overplayed his hand thinking the BOT was in his back pocket)
The account lost his Gupta battle and subsequently quit. The governor appointed someone to serve the rest of his term.
Just when the BOT had a chance to look like they all could find their asses with both hands and written directions they elect WMU undergrad/PhD UCLA Wayne State prof Zema Vassar aka Aunt Blaby who wouldn’t shut up to be board chair.
Until Vassar is gone MSU is going to find its Fund raising is severely limited.
