Its 33. The light snow I saw at midnight got serious to 4"-5' of wet heavy snow and closed 122 schools in Kent County including GRPS, EGR and Kentwood. 3 that rarely close.

If the temp stays up the road salt can work before predicted colder weather rolls in sometime Thursday.

Snowmobilers south of GR might have more than 48 hours to play.

Was supposed to have a "make up" christmas this weekend due to a covid out break on actual Christmas... pushed to the 27th. Gunna be a pool party by the time we get around to this.

City of EL doing the deer harvest thing in parks, including the Northern Tier Trail.. where I always get a few miles in.

34 and snowing here at my office in Farmington Hills. Roads coming in from Livonia were unacceptable until I crossed the county line into Oakland County. It's amazing to me how Wayne County is so bad at this.

10-15” supposedly now.

Meijer and Walmart were madhouses today. We got a foot on Tuesday night/Wed morning. Roads were completely plowed by noon. People are dumb.

5”-9” by end of day Saturday around here. I love a 2-day storm with lots of blowing and drifting, but I’m hoping for more than what’s predicted. I’m so effing sick of all the grays and browns.

I'm never sure but what I don't know is the SO's lookout.

SO wanted me to ride into dentist with, so sitting in the parking lot while dentist is working on SO.

No bad weather as of yet.

I think the snow drifts will ultimately be the issue with this one, though when I was listening to the Mid Michigan weather on WKAR, it sounds like Mid Michigan should be getting more snow than us out here on the east side.

Temp 33. Barometer 29.06 as of 9:39. Wind 1-2mph and out of te NE interestingly.
Cloudy, no precipitation overnight or at the present time.

Monthly Friday night meeting cancelled do to wimpy Chairman. Now have to decide what to have for dinner.

I was just reading Ontonagon County only uses sand on their roads no salt. Interesting. Mostly because they don’t want run off into Superior not because of temps. You’re talking over 200 inches per.

agree - they can plow and clear all the fallen snow, and then the wind will likely be blowing snow from the fields of Webberville back onto I-96.

My county back home briefly used sand on the country roads for a while. It did nothing to melt the snow and ice, but it gave decent traction, which made sliding a fairly rare occurrence. They stopped using it because the Amish and the old busy bodies complained that it was messy.

The business park where I work coats the road with a beet brine before each storm. Roads will get a bit slushy sometimes, but they have yet to freeze over in the time I've worked here. Something I can't say for other roads in the Metro Detroit region, where I'm convinced that road crews are trying to kill us.

Places like the UP & MN use either a sand calcium chloride mix or just sand.

NaCl stops working all that well below about 20 degrees F and stops completely at about 5 degrees F, CaCl is good to about 25 below zero F. When it drops below that the snow isn't that slippery anyway as it needs to melt to be slippery and the sand adds some friction if it's needed.

One problem with sand though is it can get caught in the storm drains and plug them up.

It sounds like ontonagon does so because so many miles of road abut Superior. I imagine the temps also are part of the reasoning.
