That's good. You want to build bridges in life, not burn them.

Re: Gordie Howe International Bridge
The Ambassador bridge is privately owned (by the heirs of Matty Moroun who died in 2020) which is the real reason a new government owned bridge is being built. Moroun refused to connect directly to expressways basically so he could sell duty free gas at a profit of nearly 60 cents a gallon. A permit exists for the Ambassador bridge to build a second span, but it is tied up in legal issues and may never be built.Turtleneck wrote:I have not paid attention to any of this. Are they closing the Ambassador Bridge when is completed?

We have the electricity lined up, but we cannot tell where the tunnel is.

My dad recently brought over a tub of junk that he is looking to unload from his house. Our old camcorder was inside. We could talk to the dude that owns the Sparty Bus and see if we could get a head start on shooting next season's football hype video.

Apparently, my Great grandpa owned a "hotel" on the Canadian side of St Clair that was used for illicit means. (Think purple gang)tGreenWay wrote:Any word on how progress is going on the secret Swill tunnel to Canada?
During the winter, half Detroit used to drive over the lake for the bar.

Took a pic of the bridge not long after the construction accident. No idea where it is, but the image is sort of burned into my brain. Think about it everytime I cross the thing.

As far as I know all the shipping is downriver from.the bridge, however, back in the day they had to open the bridge for sailboats and many personal boats and expect that would still be the case.

Listening to these guys and realizing the scope of this construction ... this is the largest bridge of this type in NA & the people working on it are the best of the best at what they do.

Fun fact. Warren Buffett and the late Charley Munger later regretted passing on the opportunity for Berkshire Hathaway to become majority or sole owner The Ambassador Bridge when they decided to sell their 25% interest to Matty Maroun getting out of the “bridge business” in the late ‘70’s

A cable-stayed bridge has one or more towers (or pylons), from which cables support the bridge deck. A distinctive feature are the cables or stays, which run directly from the tower to the deck, normally forming a fan-like pattern or a series of parallel lines. This is in contrast to the modern suspension bridge, where the cables supporting the deck are suspended vertically from the main cable, anchored at both ends of the bridge and running between the towers. The cable-stayed bridge is optimal for spans longer than cantilever bridges and shorter than suspension bridges. This is the range within which cantilever bridges would rapidly grow heavier, and suspension bridge cabling would be more costly.
Cable-stayed bridges were being designed and constructed by the late 16th century,[1] and the form found wide use in the late 19th century. Early examples, including the Brooklyn Bridge, often combined features from both the cable-stayed and suspension designs. Cable-stayed designs fell from favor in the early 20th century as larger gaps were bridged using pure suspension designs, and shorter ones using various systems built of reinforced concrete. It returned to prominence in the later 20th century when the combination of new materials, larger construction machinery, and the need to replace older bridges all lowered the relative price of these designs.[2]
