Malik Hall had been quiet to that point, with five points in the first 20 minutes. With the Spartans in a close, defensive battle with Maryland at the Breslin Center, Izzo knew he needed more.

“What do you want from me?” Izzo recalled Hall asking him.

“I said ‘The second half. That’s all, give me the second half,’” Izzo said.

Hall gave him one of the best halves of his Michigan State career.
