for the patience, planning, and execution. This one gets top marks for its Ocean's Eleven like scale. Guessing whomever pulled this off is somewhere in South America now.

Had not thought about the weight of that much cash.  The $160M in Ocean's Eleven would have weighed 3500# even if it was all hundred dollar bills.

JUST HOW MUCH IS $30 MILLION IN CASH?

Law enforcement officials have not discussed details of the cash that was stolen, but regardless of the denomination of the bills, such a massive amount of cash would be difficult to move and transport.

The weight of $1 million in $100 bills alone is about 22 pounds (10 kilograms), according to testimony from a U.S. Treasury official to Congress. If the cash were in various denominations, like $5s, $10s and $20s, the weight of $1 million in cash could be closer to 250 pounds (115 kilograms), which could bring the overall weight of last weekend's haul to a whopping 7,500 pounds (3,400 kilograms), or about 3 1/2 tons (3.18 metric tonnes).

Sutton said it's likely the criminals who pulled of the caper already had a plan in place for how to launder that much money.

“It's an interesting question: How do you get rid of that amount of cash?” he said. “I know it's a quandary we'd all like to have, but the reality is these criminals probably had that in their repertoire.”

This one is far lower scale but sorta clever. Thieves got into a parking lot of new vehicles that had been delivered via train. Took one of the key fobs and put an AirTag in them. Tracked the cars to the dealerships they were delivered to, where they could easily drive them off the lot.

Six arrested, one wanted in connection to high-end car theft ring

Unrelated, our business park is directly across the street from the RAM final assembly plant driveway. Read they had a number of new vehicle thefts from their lot. They've really beefed up security at that gate. Incoming car haulers sometimes back up traffic on 17 Mile.

No theft in this one, TMK.  Smuggling to avoid taxes.  Very creative.

Suspected smugglers were caught trying to hide $10 million of gold by painting it silver and disguising it as machinery on a cargo plane

What to know about the $30 million cash heist in Los Angeles

Money Weight Calculator
To me the really weird part - unless my math is off - $30,000,000 in gold would weigh roughly 874 pounds.

One kilogram of gold is worth $75,669 - current price. (Making my life easy not converting troy ounces.)
$30,000,000 gold = 396.5 kilograms
396.5 kilograms = 874 pounds.

$30,000,000 gold = 396.5 kilograms
396.5 kilograms = 874 pounds.
Doing some rough math and reducing the current price of gold by half, the $140B in gold stolen in Die Hard With a Vengeance would have weighed over 2 million pounds.  Each of the 14 dump trucks would have to carry about 145,000 pounds of gold.  Similarly ridiculous to the 3 SWAT guys walking out the door with $160M.

Hollywood needs some math guys but won't pay them.  Guess that's why most new movies feature digital heists.

How do you get 3.5 tons of cash out of a secure(?) building without someone noticing until the next day? Guessing most/all of it was circulated and untraceable.
