NBA gives Jontay Piorter lifetime ban
It was inevitable. And I’d bet it more prevalent than we know.
Per league statement: The league’s investigation found that prior to the Raptors’ March 20 game, Porter disclosed confidential information about his own health status to an individual he knew to be an NBA bettor. Another individual with whom Porter associated and knew to be an NBA bettor subsequently placed an $80,000 parlay proposition bet with an online sports book, to win $1.1 million, wagering that Porter would underperform in the March 20 game.

Gotta keep the gambling legitimate...
Seriously, if a bookie takes a bet for a specific player performing a specific way, fuck em, that's on them.

You would think a bet that size might throw up red flags.
Kind of like the dumbass betting $100,000 on college baseball threw up some red flags.

Any bet of that size on a player prop is likely to raise red flags at the sportsbook. My understanding is that these are mostly only an option so that bettors can make more parlays (notorious sucker bets), but I don't think any bookmaker is taking $80k on a player prop when betting in person. The house doesn't win by being stupid.
