Mrazek gets the win in his 1st start of the season, with some 3rd period help from Abdelkader and Tatar. I'm getting less and less worried about not making the playoffs.

The 5 OTLs stick out like a sore thumb, though.

I have to start paying attention to when they are on TV. I'd like to watch a few games. I just can't get into watching Boston vs NY.

I only caught the third period but they were playing well against Ryan Miller's Canucks. Jimmy Howard now tied for third in Wings all-time victories with Harry Lumley.

The general rule is 95 points, and you're in the playoffs.  The Wings are at 81 points as of February 28th, and have just come back from a West Coast road trip that they finished 4-1-1, ripping off 9 out of a possible 12 points, while playing most of it without their captain (Zetterberg), bits of it without their top-4 defenseman (Quincey), and an unfortunate portion of it without their Swiss-Army-knife dude (Darren Helm).  

They just picked up Cole to replace Franzen (assuming Franzen doesn't come back anytime soon) and start scoring and pasting people in the corners.  To get him, they gave up two Swedes, one of whom left GR in a snit because he wasn't getting to Detroit fast enough, and the other of whom is...a typical smallish, two-way Swedish forward, both of whom are a year or two away.  Oh, and they swapped draft picks.  

Yeah, the Red Wings are toast.

Just got an alert on my phone that the Wings acquired Zidlicky from NJ, but haven't seen anything on the Twitters about it.

If that's the case, I think it's better than Phaneuf which would have been a pretty hefty contract to take on with Marchenko and Oulette looking like they belong.

This. I get the "win now" thing, and I'd love to, as well -- but Marchenko & XO look purty damn good, considering. Smith? Meh. Coulda pitched him as far as I'm concerned, but we didn't. We pitched one draft pick and (I think) swapped another with NJ, and got Zdlicky in return. Not bad, Kenny. Not bad at all.

No assets gone, two significant additions (one replacing Franzen, one replacing...a functioning D-man), some draft picks and a coupla pieces thrown away to get them. I'm cool wid it.
