How does "The Pink Pony" work for Michigan when:
a) I've never heard of it
b) only one on 10,000 Michiganders have been there.
c) gHost would have to give you a ride in his mother's boat to get there.

That's bullshit anyway. 95% of the state's population has not been to Mackinac by any stretch. Hard to put something like that down.Floyd Robertson wrote:How does "The Pink Pony" work for Michigan when:

I will say Arnold's in Cincy is fantastic. Absolutely one of the best bars around.

You need Hoppy's on that Up North list. I am going to add Cadieux Cafe to the Detroit list, and Casey's Tavern in AA to a "when stuck behind enemy lines" list.

just seeing the words "Up North" makes me smile... and long for a day of family, pressed khakis, blue button-downs, a crackling fire at night as my trusty dog brings me sticks from the lake.. all very worthy moments tailor made for Facebook and Instagram.

It's only like that for some people. You let the bourgeoisie skew your idea of the up north experience. Hell, I don't golf and have no use for khakis or button downs while in Northern Michigan.

there are probably a few good bike trails up there. If you could get me off of the golf course long enough.. and away from enjoying the S'mores with my wonderfully photogenic, yet non-threatening, family...InTenSity wrote:I hear they have bike trails...'Up North'. there is a driveway.. a perennial garden.. a swath of grass.. then a house. Maybe about 25 feet. Same for the other side.Turtleneck wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:

I'm pretty sure the neighbors to the west don't enjoy my basement drum solos as much as I do.Turtleneck wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:there is a driveway.. a perennial garden.. a swath of grass.. then a house. Maybe about 25 feet. Same for the other side.

Working on convincing the wife to move to Beaver Island.
I found 10 acres with 300ft of Lake Michigan beachfront for $80k.
I think I could build a halfway decent house there for under 200k. So far no go.
Except I'll be at ground zero when World War III breaks out... also known as The War For Water and also known as American Civil War II.

You'll just have to fortify the beachhead and guard your flanking positions.

my thought exactly. I get making fun of cottages with cable, WiFi, 2000 sq ft, and all the amenities, but not camp fires and smores.Bizarro Fletch wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:just seeing the words "Up North" makes me smile... and long for a day of family, pressed khakis, blue button-downs, a crackling fire at night as my trusty dog brings me sticks from the lake.. all very worthy moments tailor made for Facebook and Instagram.
