They prolly just get offended being A) wrongfully accused and B) being accused of the wrong thing for the sake of the accuser being extreme.

If you call someone racist you're accusing them of believing that they are superior to another person based on the race of the individual in question. Many times people accuse others of being racist when what they're really accusing them of is being prejudice. And often times even that would be a stretch.

Very, very few people are actually racist. Being prejudice is far more common. But calling someone racist has a lot more 'oomph' to it than calling someone prejudice, so people would rather go for the throat for effect and because of our politically correct, social justice warrior society we have nowadays no one questions the details.

Kind of like how getting caught peeing in public can get you one of those pervert charges that makes it so you can't live near a school or be near kids.
