So wait, rocket scientists were actually working on creating impulse power and they accidentally stumbled on warp drive? I guess this is how all great discoveries are made. Zephram Cochran would be proud.

That's awesome. I remember reading about the RF drives a while ago and that people were skeptical of how it would actually propel something

We should have First Contact from the Federation soon.....they try to do that right after the discovery of warp drive.

Just proves credibility, unless you got it wrong on purpose only so that someone would correct you and make you look more credible. Of course if you knew that someone would figure put that you stayed your credibility by giving the wrong name, only to be corrected, but then... Fuck it, I'm on my third beer and Los my train of thought, who's birthday is it again?
Ouch, my balls. Good catch.
Edit, I can't even use the site no more

Theoretically, space is contracted in front of the field & expanded behind it, resulting in movement. The Starship Enterprise rides inside the field. There's a diagram if you follow the link.

When riding in your car, you & the car are moving, yet inside the car you are not. Warp field is the car (though it operates on different principles). The ship is you.

damn, dude - why didn't you just say that the first time? so when a fly is the car and the car is going 70 mph, the fly isn't flying at 70 mph.Heat Miser wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:

Re: NASA May Have Accidentally Created a Warp Field
You know how you made your hands into "speed boats" when you would swim in the lake up north as a child? Like this?
zzzzzzzoooooooooommmmm!
Well the pressure of your hand on the water creates a "low spot" in the water. If you took your hand away, would the water stay that way? No. It would return to a normal flat surface. The energy of the water returning to it's normal state could carry a teeeny tiny boat forward a little bit. Like this:
see the teeny tiny boat???? AWWWWWW...
Now imagine the teeny tiny boat had an engine that could create that ripple that your hand made all by itself. The boat could "warp" the water so that the wave would carry it forward.
pew pew pewwwwwww!!!

You can't hear anything in space, but that's another lesson.

There's an artificial atmosphere in the ship, which allows sound to travel.
