Another win for Izzo over Beeeeline
Where were all the UM rollers?
John Beilein generates $14,000 bid in auction for American Cancer Society
ANN ARBOR -- John Beilein will be participating in one pricy round of golf next month.
And it'll be worth every penny.
As part of a charity auction organized by longtime Oakland University basketball coach Greg Kampe, Beilein drew a winning bid of $14,000 for a dinner on May 31 and a day of golf on June 1 at famed Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills.
All proceeds from the event benefit the American Cancer Society.
The coaches drew the following winning bids:
Greg Kampe — $30,000
Tom Izzo — $19,000
John Calipari — $16,000
Bobby Huggins — $16,000
Steve Alford — $15,000
Roy Williams — $15,000
John Beilein — $14,000
Sean Miller — $13,000
Rick Barnes — $12,000
Josh Pastner — $11,000

I had to look up who Greg Kampe was. Someone really likes Oakland basketball.

If I was one of those coaches, I'd be a bit creeped out that some fan would be willing to pay that kind of money to play golf with me. I mean, think about that. I hope they check those people's backgrounds out.

He organized the outing so I'm assuming someone did that to reward him. That said, he's a helluva nice guy and a good coach.

that's a good point.. I don't enjoy being touched. I'd be afraid they'd want to touch me.DWags wrote:If I was one of those coaches, I'd be a bit creeped out that some fan would be willing to pay that kind of money to play golf with me. If the money is going to charity, doesn't that person now get a $19k write off and be able to play golf with a great coach?

This. And there's a charity auction social circuit in Detroit, just like any big city, where this is expected. Taking part is part business and part ego. Those who can afford it are harmless.

I would love to see Gross Pointe residents kissing the fist while a bunch of Detroit residents cheered. It would be an amazing sight to behold.InTenSity wrote:I hope none of those suburbs go back to Detroit and kiss the fist. tMoose would be repulsed.Watch Out Pylon! wrote:
