I'm more of a McDonald's guy... But for some reason I do recall a specific Burger King on US10 on the way to Ludington. In or near Reed City, I think. That always seemed pretty Up North to me.

US 10 runs west from Clare, Clare is the Gateway to the North - so you're golden.

Agree. The real fisherman will be no where near your rock throwing distance.

Yeah, I know Lafayette and American (Lafayette is better btw). I would take Lipuma's over both of them. It also has a bit of a soup nazi element.

More white people Oakland county stuff.
MiChiGo Pizza in Ferndale - best Chicago style in Detroit area.
112 Pizzeria Bistro in Rochester at M-59/Adams is better than Supino and/or Tomatoe's in terms of NY style.
Swirlindipity weird scrip mall ice cream place at Big Beaver and John R in Troy has Dole Whip, of Magic Kingdom fame. I don't expect many of you to understand.

Descended from Keweenaw Yoopers (both parents) and have crossed the Straits of Mackinaw probably 200 times. Dad and his dad worked on the MacArthur Lock at the Soo together before dad left to eventually pilot B-17G's over Germany. He returned to the UP after the war and got his engineering degree from Michigan Tech while playing goalie for the Huskies hockey team.
My sis got her degree from Michigan Tech too. Spent a couple summers on Isle Royal at Rock Harbor Lodge working as a waitress.
Parents had a cottage on Portage Lake about 4-5 miles from Houghton/Hancock across the water. Remember seeing freighters plying the lake before the Calumet & Hecla strike brought copper mining operations to a halt.
What you know about true "Up North" Michigan would take less space than the pointy end of a needle. Same for any other of you other fuckers that think the north side of the lower peninsula qualifies as 'Up North'. Until you dip your head in Lake Superior, you know nothing about up north
