People who dont think global warming is a thing

A new Stanford University initiative aims to overcome barriers to large-scale deployment of tech that can pull planet-warming gases from the atmosphere.

Arun Majumdar, the school's dean, notes that academic research often begins with looking for a proof of concept and then seeing if it can scale.

But Stanford's multi-disciplinary approach aims to turn this paradigm on its head.
"Here we are saying, let's think about the scale from the beginning and work backwards," Majumdar said.

One is that typically they support gas/energy companies so it would curtail a lot of those activities or at the very least create more regulations.

The other part is simply because it's an issue the liberals/Democrats often champion and therefore they (GOP) feel they have to take the opposing angle. I'm of the belief that's the main reason behind 99% of these political quarrels.

I could be wrong, though... hopefully one of the individuals that believes global warming is a sham will chime in as to the reasons why they're so opposed.

Edit: Now that I think about it another reason, which actually may have some truth to it... is the fear of new taxation being imposed.

A devastating drought in the Horn of Africa, which has now stretched across five straight failed rainy seasons, would not have occurred without human-caused climate change, a new study found.

Why it matters: According to a new scientific analysis, climate change sparked by human emissions are exacerbating the region's arid conditions, as well as the suffering of tens of millions of people.

The drought has created one world's worst humanitarian crises. At least 36.4 million people in the Horn of Africa this year will need emergency assistance to survive, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

This is a climate change story that fossil fuel billionaires and their GOP lackeys would rather you didn’t know.

As more and more people are killed by extraordinarily severe weather in places where it used to be unusual it’s going to get harder and harder to keep Red State citizens from finding out how badly they’ve been screwed by the unholy alliance between Republicans and oil barons.

It’s a major contributor to climate change — the way buildings and roads are made with concrete. It’s also a problem that’s growing as more of the world develops. So the race has been on to find solutions for a material that’s responsible for roughly 8% of global carbon dioxide emissions.

Now one California startup has developed a technology that reduces carbon dioxide in the making of cement and could have the potential to operate at large scale. Fortera intercepts carbon dioxide exhaust from the kilns where cement is made and routes it back in to make additional cement. In its first effort at commercial scale, the technology is being added to a CalPortland facility in Redding, California, one of the largest cement plants in the western U.S. It opens Friday.

“Our target is about being a ubiquitous solution that can work really at any plant,” said Ryan Gilliam, Fortera CEO.
