Was just there for a family wedding. What a fun town. Not overly crowded. Huge German influence with tons of beer halls, etc. The river runs right through the city...nice riverwalk and outdoor activities. They kind of have a Lakeshore type drive along Lake MI...friendly people.

It was a better expereince than I thought it would be.

Obligatory did you take a speedboat across the lake from Grand Haven to get there?

ran the Lakefront Marathon there years ago. Started at Grafton High School pretty much ran straight down the lakeshore into some park. Spent some time hanging out, drinking beer for a week. I like all of the traditional rust belt cities: Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh - all have a lot of character.

What about Grand Rapids? Some people say it is better than Detroit.

it's a nice town. Living downtown would be okay - wouldn't want to live in the suburbs.

Downtown Grand Rapids?

Downtown Cincy was kind of cool. Not sure that qualifies as rust belt. I think it does.

downtown anywhere > suburbs anywhere

(for me - I hope you suburbanites can find it in your heart to allow me to say what my preference is)

There is no room for debate on this. Suburbs destroyed this country and are a complete hell. All of them. Every last one of them.

not only that (which I agree with), but they're not my scene.
