If he bothered to pay attention he would have realized that the crux of the question was how do we pay for it. The (only) dem that has advocated for the program offered a specific plan for paying for it. But lets not let that get in the way of intentionally misrepresenting the arguement and thus dismissing the point the canidate was trying to make.

The intellectual disconnect is mind blowing. From the right: "We can't do that!! It'd be suicide!! How would we compete internationally? "
Yet somehow dozens of much poorer and 'inferior' countries find a way to make paid maternity leave, free quality education (including college), universal health care, gun control, ect work.
If we are truly the greatest country in the world then we should be able to find a way to extend programs that have been shown to increase quality of life around the globe to our citizens.
If we are really as great as we say we are we should be able to take the best ideas from around the world, improve on them and create the greatest society the world has known.

Re: Democratic debate
So, obviously didn't watch; because screw both those gangs. Â I guess I'll have to start watching around next summer. Â
Free college though? Â Are we not aware how well that is working in other countries? Â That are quickly moving to surpass us, btw. Â
We are beholden to self interest though I guess. Â We're late to the party on the most modest of gun control and health care issues as well.
The real question people should ask though is; Why hasn't something as obvious as campaign reform not been passed? Â The fact that eliminating all the special interest money from out election process doesn't get unanimous support is more telling than anything. Â In general the best fundraiser wins his/her election and that doesn't seem to be a problem with far too many people.

Meh, I have liberal beliefs, I have conservative beliefs (So awesome what free thought feels like when you're not beholden to one of those gangs or tied to the talking points from some pundit)0. Â We haven't had anything close to a Socialist in mainstream American politcis in a long time though. Â Hell, the Socialist Obama is a Right Centrist if you actually look at his track record. Â I feel pretty safe anyway that we're sticking with this Capitalsm thing we have going.Â
No idea who I'm voting for yet, btw.

Re: Democratic debate
I'm trying to figure out which party our current President belongs to.
The Republicans are darned unhappy with him. After the recitations of our country's woes last night and the repeated calls for new leadership it seems the Democrats don't care for him much either.
When does his party hold their debate?

Good question. Hillary used to be a republican, maybe she knows. One or two of the other master debaters were also republicans at one point in their political careers.

Liberals despise people who had to work their way to achieve success. Absolutely despise. In fact they've banned telling their children if you work had you can achieve anything.
Now the message is the system is rigged against you, you deserve entitlements for simply breathing, and you have to be lucky to be successful.
I get it. Pander to the mass sheep who made poor life decisions and nags them feel like integrity fsulure is the fault of others.

It won't be fair, nor will it be fair to those that make the decision to bypass college and the associated costs/debt. My son is one of those, now making $25+ an hour as a mechanic - should he pay for others to go to college for a degree that qualifies them for $24K a year?

We want upgrades to our infrastructure, universal health care, more pre-k and higher ed, more public transit and we're willing to tax the rich to get it.

I agree it's a right, anyone has a right to get one. Just plan to pay for it yourself.

Re: Democratic debate
For all of you "free college" people: just see how worthless college degrees become when everyone has a BA or BS. It will be nothing more than a high school diploma. It's getting that way now.
And if you think many high schools now are wastelands of social promotion, grade inflation, sex, bulling and violence see what happens when college is "free" too.
Honestly, the subject of "free" this and "free" that is such infantile, moronic nonsense that I can't believe people that claim to be college educated talk as if its a legitimate concept. It's communist fairy dust. Utopian bullshit.
You can't have a wealth producing, job producing, capitalist, meritocracy (that morons like Bernie Sanders gushes about) for very long when 18 trillion is confiscated by the government and spread around like goodies. Besides that, for all of you dumbasses, we can't afford what's being done now! We go deeper into debt every second to support the welfare state that Bernie Sanders thinks is not spending enough now.
It's not because of the 1%.If you taxed all of their wealth- 100% of it- and left the Rockefeller's, Gates, Buffets, Waltons, etc penniless on the street, it would fund the current government for a few months.
And don't forget, when universal health care started being pushed it was going to be "free". Then, as it was being pushed through Congress, it was changed to " affordable". Now we see the reality. It's not affordable, even for those that qualify for subsidies, the co-pays and deductibles have skyrocketed. For those without subsidies, the premiums have doubled and out of pocket costs have gone up by 50%. I know. I pay for my own medical insurance.
On top of this, its all enforced by the IRS that force you to buy an unaffordable product and penalize you for failing to do do. They will take your house, your bank account, your car, your pension.
That is Bernie Sanders bullshit utopia and he doesn't want to just double down, But triple down. It's phony bullshit. It never works and only diminishes wealth and freedom. It's cynical vote buying by elites.
