At least.
Lunardi's last update on the weekend has Maryland as a 2 (#7 overall), MSU as a 4 (#14), and Penn State as a 4 (#16).

None of it matters. See last year. Remember when we were "screwed" into being in with Duke... Lead to one of the best wins of the last decade.

It matters from a fan (and travel) perspective. And we got "screwed" when the bracket was done (after the season). Talking about it now is different. We still have 2 weeks left.
I think everyone (fans/coaches/players) would prefer to play in Cleveland/Indy. As it sits, we would need to move up the 4 seed line to get to Cleveland, and past one of the (current) 3 seeds (Louisville, Kentucky) to get to Indy.
Doing that means we would (most likely) win out....getting better in March = getting a higher seed. Higher seeds/better teams generally go hand in hand.
There's a big difference between being a "screwed" 2 seed vs. being a 3/4/5 (or even 6) seed.

Re: NCAA Tournament Bracketology
Joey Brackets bumped us to a 3 seed (#12 overall) already. That would most likely mean 1st Round in Cleveland, but still not Midwest Regional in Indy.

Joey moves Creighton from a 4 to a 2. MSU loses 2 spots overall and gets bumped to a 4 seed (but moved to the MidWest). That will change tomorrow (might change tonight when he updates bracket to include Louisville loss).

Imma gonna guess we will get a 4. Which is fair given the totality of the season.

A match up with Bama in Birmingham would be less than ideal (projection before the Wisconsin win).
2023 NCAA TOURNAMENT BRACKETOLOGY BY JOE LUNARDI UPDATED: 1/10/2023 AT 09:00 A.M. ET
EAST (NEW YORK)
BIRMINGHAM
1 aq - Alabama
16 aq - Stetson
8 Michigan St.
9 West Virginia
Probably more like a 7 right now, which is where BPI has us (after last night's win).

Wonder if anybody ever bothered to go back to see how these "projected" brackets compared to the final... I'd like to see the statistical analysis of that.
The articles feel almost like clickbait.

BPI is just a computer formula. Changes every game/night. Not really a projection of end of season. Same with Bracketology. He's just using computer numbers to project a bracket at any given time (2 times/week now).
Just something fun to look at every now and then.

Dropped to a 9 seed using BPI.
As long as we finish .500 in the Big Ten, we'll get in.

Updated BPI has:
Purdue 1 seed
MSU 7
Wisconsin 8
Rutgers 10
Indiana 10
Maryland 10
Northwestern 10
Iowa 11
Illinois 11
Penn State First Four Out
Quite the logjam at 10/11. Would love to stay separated from that.

If purdues guards can replicate what they did against us they could make a run.
I cant explain Illinois.
Indiana is starting to look very good.
If the ncaa tournament turns out to be a tournament that favors teams with strong players at the 1 & 2, don’t discount MSU’s chances. Our back court is top 5 in the nation.
Fuck Michigan. Glad they suck. But you know they’ll shoot 62% against us.
I heard someone say Purdue is an Eddy sprained ankle away from being an average NIT team.

Bracketology has Purdue as the #1 overall seed. If that's true, I like our chances to contend. They also have us as a 7 seed (with 2 seed Iowa State in Des Moines).

BPI Seeds/Resume:
1 Purdue
8 Wisconsin
8 MSU
9 IU
10 Rutgers
11 Northwestern
11 Maryland
11 Illinois
12 Iowa
12 Penn State
Need to get out of the 8/9 seed to avoid a match up with Bama, KU, or KSU.
With @Purdue on Sunday, that makes Thursday vs. Iowa very important.

I don't think the Big Ten blows as much as we don't have any 'great' teams. Purdue is obviously very good, but I wouldn't them into the 'great' category.Heat Miser wrote:B1G blows this year.
I think the conference has quite a bit of depth and, from what I see right now, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see some lower seeded Big Ten teams give higher seeds a lot of trouble in the tournament.

Not sure I'd want to play IU in the tournament, or Illinois.
