He is making you a decoy so he can fade into the background and escape investigation. If he has nothing to hide he should be straightforward and not try to create a ruse.

There's are two ways to reply to someone calling you a michigan fan snake. Deny it or don't say anything (like a blue would do) or threaten to murder their entire family. No other way.
