Davis gotta be gone
Weird game. 15 minutes. I just don't think he responds to Izzo style coaching. Don't see him going through the program another year. Don't see how Schilling got as many minutes. I know he's a little soft and a freshman. Seems Izzo is handling him like a four year player when that's not Davis plans. Maybe something Izzo needs to tweak in handling these 1 or 2 year players.

I don't really follow the NBA much. Does he really have enough to step into the NBA without a couple of years in the D league first?

Yeah by next year Izzo will have discovered Blanch during the great Blanch vs Wags throwdown and Blanch will be ahead of DD on the depth chart.

He will go because he will be a projected lottery pick. Likely nothing to do with Izzo. DD couldn't guard that Treadwell kid or whatever his name was. I don't know if Kawhi Leonard could have guarded him today but he was taking DD to school.

Watching Swanigan and Davis both players seem listless at times. Seems like both just want to serve their year in the NCAA and move on.

If DAVIS doesn't declare he's a fool. I'm 95% sure he declares. Izzo should make him. New rule allows him to go to the combine in May and then "undeclare " I believe. That rule is perfect for him. ( maybe I'm wrong on the rule).

Yeah, as much as I'd love to have him around he should grab the $$ if he's projected top 20 as he is now. Watching Goins today should reinforce that anything can happen.....or Poythress for a life lesson. Goes from a certain lottery pick as a Freshmen to "might be drafted, might not" now.

Did you see him in painters post game speech. He seemed checked out. He's got a ton of potential and is fun to watch I just don't think he's tuned in or cares at this level.

Izzo was just trying to win the game and DD wasn't getting it done. It is as simple as that. How some guy that can't defend a guy from Middle Tennessee State can be a lottery pick is another discussion

If Davis is graded out as a sure fire top 15 pick it's tough to say he should come back.
But he's not even close to being ready for the league.

Re: Davis gotta be gone
Have no clue about Davis family financial situation and no clue about his interest in staying in school. If his mind is made up we'll know quickly because he won't be showing up for classes and maybe moving out of state to train. I don't think he's physically ready for an 82 game season, long road trips and don't think the league gives young players time to work on their game. Then there's a real possibility that he could be in the D League if chosen in the lower half of the draft.
After the last NBA player agreement the rookie salary scale has taken away some of the temptation to leave before you are ready. The big money contracts come after 4 years like we saw with Green.
This is what Davis would be looking at if chosen at 5/10/15/20/25 using 15-16 season scale
#5 1st yr/$3,117,900 2nd yr/$3,258,200 3rd yr (option) $3,398,600
#10 1st yr/$2,068,100 2nd yr/$2,161,200 3rd yr (option) $2,254,200
#15 1st yr/$1,600,200 2nd yr/ $1,672,200 3rd yr (option) $1,744,200
#20 1st yr/$1,257,800 2nd yr/$1,314,400 3rd yr (option) $1,371,000
#25 1st yr/$1,025,700 2nd yr $1,071,800 3rd yr (option) $1,118,000
#30 1st yr/$943,300 2nd yr/ $985,700 3rd yr (option) $1,028,200
The link is from this season so next year's will be slightly higher.

Much of what Parrish writes here is applicable to Davis.
Skal Labissiere made the only sensible move and entered the 2016 NBA Draft
Skal Labissiere made the only sensible move and entered the 2016 NBA Draft
Now, to be clear, we could have a long conversation about whether Labissiere will start his professional career in the D-League, and we could debate for hours if he'll ever be a relevant NBA player. But, for the purposes of this column, those things are totally beside the point. Because the bottom line is the bottom line, and the point is this: Skal Labissiere will almost certainly get picked in the first round of June's NBA Draft, and probably in the lottery of June's NBA Draft. And that means he'll spend next season playing basketball somewhere for a paycheck in excess of $1.5 million rather than competing for playing time, and possibly further damaging his NBA stock, at Kentucky.
And people are questioning whether this is wise?
Get out of my face.
Right now, there are still NBA franchises that remain more intrigued with Labissiere's skillset and upside than they are concerned with his lack of production at the collegiate level. But what would happen if the 7-foot forward returned to Kentucky, struggled again and got caught in a numbers game with UK's returning bigs and UK's three top-30 national recruits who are frontcourt players -- most notably Bam Adebayo and Wenyen Gabriel?
Then Labissiere's hypothetical lack of production would be a bigger issue.
And the 2017 NBA Draft will be way deeper.
So Labissiere could find himself in a much worse spot a year from now.

Yep, Skal must go pro. The Harrison twins come to mind as guys who would have had ton of hype if they left after their frosh year, didn't, came back, got exposed for not being that good and now won't ever have NBA careers.

Kentucky has 6-10, 6-9, and 6-9 5 stars coming in.
MSU has 6-8 Ward coming in.
Davis would shine by sticking around. I don't think he would damage his stock at all.

I found this interesting...

I always thought he was taller. Obviously he has ridiculous wingspan, which is probably more important. But there is a big difference in being a 6' 9.5" player vs. a 7 footer when drafting on potential.
Notes: Measured 6'9.5 (in shoes) 212 lbs, with a 7'1.5 wingspan at the 2014 Nike Big Man Skills Academy

A 7 footer is a dinosaur in today's NBA.

Fair enough, but Davis right now plays role of a true post position center. His potential (which is what Davis will be drafted as) as post center is not as high in the NBA being only 6-9.5. And so far he hasn't shown the ability (offensively or defensively, nor has he been asked to) to extend outside the post as a PF.
