I think I would. Better shot at winning 7 than 11 imo.

Nope. I think we have a better chance of winning 10.

In your case? Yes, I would lock in 9 for Michigan.

We're going 10-2 and then a decent bowl game.

9 and 3 doesn't get us anything, and we only beat the teams we should have in theory. With that said, I'm taking 11 and 1 no question. 10 and 2 requires thought

This is my thought as well; however I could see us choking 1 away as well simply because we haven't done that in a while

Close call. Assuming we lose to ND in the non-conference, that means we'd lose another 2 conference games, which likely would leave us out of the BTTG. So what are we "locking in" exactly?
Might as well let it ride and go for another conference title.
But 9-3 feels about right for this season, if that's what you're asking. Given the departures on the OL and DL, the recent attrition etc., it's logical to expect a step back.

Conversely, we also beat Oregon and osu.

9 and 3 locks in "respect" although I'm not sure 8 and 4 wouldn't either....

C'mon Blanch, let it go. Our guys were sleepwalking through that entire game, including Cook.

Despite the balant holds, and no LJ, I thought we were ok, and definitely winning either 4 or 5 to go.
That and our secondary was still decimated

I think 9-3 and a win against a Florida type overrated SEC team in a New Years day bowl game keeps MSUs image of a top program alive and well. 10-3 keeps the train rolling.
OTOH, will 2017 be a better year for MSU than 2016 on the field? Maybe with the 5th year QB this year we need to repeat?

True, but with the o line and qb, our expectations could change dramatically

Winning a NYD bowl game against a marquee opponent is still important, no doubt, but a high-profile opponent is never guaranteed. We could get matched up with a GTech or Houston type team where beating them on NYD would mean nothing in terms of perception.
Championships are the only things worth playing for in this era of college football.

How good is OSU supposed to be this year? They obviously lost a ton of talent.

That doesn't matter, MSU is the only college team that has to deal with attrition. Everyone else is fine because...crootin.Watch Out Pylon! wrote:How good is OSU supposed to be this year? They obviously lost a ton of talent.

Thats why I am saying 9-3 and then take our shot at a big bad SEC team in the Cap1 or Outback.
With our OL and QB, things could really stall on offense. Team I think teams will stack us against the run, and our OL isnt going to be able to move anyone on the better defenses. Only reason we weren't an 8 win team last year was Cook.

OSU should be very good, especially by the time we play them
OSU and Bama in football just assume top 5 every year. With their coaches and recruiting. Plus OSU has Barrett coming back which is huge and he doesn't need to look over his shoulder.

Except our offense kept the ball for 39 minutes. They had it for 21. 39 minutes our rookie QB moved the ball, often checking out of plays and keeping osu's offense on the sideline.
Defense was sharp when they had to be, but don't be a dumb ass as to how that game was won.

I'll just sum up my feelings by saying that, although not desirable, a 9-3 record will keep me off MD's back for another season.

This is my thought as well; however I could see us choking 1 away as well simply because we haven't done that in a while
