Anyone ever suffer a credit/debit card security breach and/or identity theft?
My debit card got rejected at 3 places on my way home from work today. Freaked me out. Couldn't get home fast enough to sign in online to see WTF was going on.
While racing home I was having flashbacks to this past Tuesday. Stopped at the post office to mail my tax checks to the IRS and State of Michigan. Normally I like to walk the envelopes into the office and get them postmarked but the parking lot was a zoo so I veered off to a drive-up drop box. Tossed the envelopes in, listening to hear them hit the bottom. There was no sound. The box was so full that I'm pretty sure I could have reached in there and grabbed a bunch of tax returns. With a line of cars behind me I punched the box hoping it would break up the mail and get my envelopes out of reach. No dice...my hand still hurts.
Looked up my card account to see it had been suspended with a BOA number to call. Was told there was a security breach by a merchant that has my card number and, thankfully there are no fraudulent charges so far.
The call gave me a little peace of mind from the tax return theft I was fearing. Thinking about my name, address, bank routing & account numbers, and SS# on the check gave me the chills.

Yup. A few months ago I got a voicemail from my bank saying my account had been suspended and to call them asap. I was like WTF and called immediately. Apparently someone had gotten a hold of my info and tried to wire themselves $5,000 from my checking acct. Fortunately my bank red flagged it and didn't allow it to go through. I had to close that account down and start a new one. Huge headache and very scary stuff. I still don't know how this person got a hold of my info, I'm just much more careful now. Try to limit your online purchasing as much as possible and make sure all your passwords for banking, etc., are not easily cracked. Use multiple letters, numbers and symbols.

I feel bad for anyone who paid for 247. You just know those crappy programmers probably exposed your credit card numbers to the world.

About 20 years ago, somebody stole one of those pre-approved credit card offers from my mailbox. Somehow, they completed the process and got a card issued. The rang up about $1,200 charges, which the credit card company waived after a fraud investigation.
More recently, I had to have my debit card reissued after my bank found someone using it to order hotel porn in Mexico on the same day was grocery shopping in Michigan. It wasn't fun living for 10 days without a functioning debit card.

I got an alert from amex before. There were a couple if small charges to my card. I called the fraud dept and while talking to them they said someone was trying to charge $135 at a target. Everything was taken care if amd they fedex me a new card a day later. No idea how they spoofed the card or where they did it. Have had boa send me a couple new cars when they suspected my card may have been compromised.

Pantree. You should get the mobile app so you can find out immediately. I had stuff happen after the target fiasco. I found it in mobile and got it fixed. Had to cancel my debit card and get new one.

Had 3 happen right around Christmas, 2 were on 2 different credit cards and 1 was on my MSUFCU check card. All were cleared up and identified as fraud. No idea where they got my info but the large Target hack around that time makes sense.

Had a mobile app on my last phone but hadn't gotten around to installing it on the current one. Done.Tanfan! wrote:Pantree. You should get the mobile app so you can find out immediately.
