Family of the maker of the AR-15 comes out against its civilian use
They say their dad designed the gun for military use only and would be mortified if he knew how it's being used now.

Link showing bats and knives kill more people - should we ban those too?
The definition of assault rifle
This guy had it legally so we could have done nothing to stop it
Thoughts and prayers tho.

Neither do I. I figured if we can have a thread making jokes about homos, then a news story about the AR-15 fits here, too.

Come on Greenway, that's a silly article.
From the linked NBC article:
Family of AR-15 Inventor Eugene Stoner: He Didn't Intend It for Civilians
"After many conversations with him, we feel his intent was that he designed it as a military rifle," his family said, explaining that Stoner was "focused on making the most efficient and superior rifle possible for the military."
He designed the original AR-15 in the late 1950s, working on it in his own garage and later as the chief designer for ArmaLite, a then small company in southern California. He made it light and powerful and he fashioned a new bullet for it — a .223 caliber round capable of piercing a metal helmet at 500 yards.
The .223 isn't even legal to hunt big game because it's a weak round, exactly the opposite of what they're saying there. Christ these people will lie about anything to make the gun seem scary.
And from the article you linked this is bullshit too...
Only after his death in 1997 and the expiration of the Assault Weapons Ban in 2004 did the gun become popular with civilians.
But facts aren't important when you're pushing an agenda.

Yep, but I'm not surprised. I'd also like to point out that this is just a timely news story. Nowhere do I say the AR should be banned. I've just pointed out what the family said. That's factual, not emotional, like so many on the NRA side get.

The article isn't silly. It's factual and it's the truth. The family did make those statements. That's what I posted. Stop letting your emotions get in the way of an interesting thread.

Have they returned the $$ the family made off the gun? If not, they're just running their mouths as they live well on the blood of the innocent.

"thoughts and prayers" makes intellectually vulnerable people think you care about them while you go out to dinner with gun lobbyists - representing the biggest terror organization in America.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:my thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

You keep repeating this like saying it enough times will bring victims back to life. "Oh wait, its not very lethal round vs an elephant?, well shit yeah! rock on then". I'm sure that the victims families of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are comforted that the bomb used is relatively limp compared to todays nuclear weapons.

it's was actually a good day for republicans:Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:50 people are dead. There are some facts for you loose.
a) the shooting happened at a gay nightclub and I suspect most victims were gay..
and..
b) they get to blame it on a scary brown person so they can advance their agenda of fear and paranoia while promoting their sexual fetish for guns.
why do you think Trump bragged "I called it" and "thanks for the congrats" on Sunday as 50 American families mourned the lose of their sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, etc?

lol, Bob actually has the gall to advance this theory after his Dems spent 15 hours yesterday on the Senate floor trying to stir up hysteria by lying about the big bad guns that rednecks use as substitute cocks.
A question - if not a brown person who would you blame for doing the shooting?

There's blood on the hands of anyone who thinks an AR or similar-style rifle should be in the hands of civilians. Now, I know that's a fuckload of people across the country, but then again, that's a fuckload of blood we're talking about. More than plenty to cover all those hands.
That's okay, though, because some of those folks might eventually get right with their Maker when they're called Home. And who knows, maybe they'll even be forgiven and welcomed at the Pearly Gates by the elementary schoolchildren from Newtown and the most recent departed, the dozens dead in Orlando. I doubt their families have had time to forgive, though, because they're still trying to get the horrific images, real or imagined, out of their minds.

Is an AR15 easier to go on a killing spree with than with a handgun, more difficult to go on a killing spree with than with a handgun, or the same level of difficulty to go on a killing spree with than with a handgun? And why?
If it needs to be a specific handgun for you to answer, let's go with a Glock 19.
