Is golf a Sport or Skill?

Art is a skill. Running fast with bad intentions with quick twitch muscles is sport. If Golf was a true "sport" wouldn't he best athletes with the best hand eye coordination be the top golfers?

I mean to ask this with no malice towards the golfers on this board. But I played a shit ton this week with friends from HS who I was better at in football basketball and baseball. They destroyed me. I'm fatter slower and less competitive but it seems your hand eye would dominate the game.

So what is it?

It's one of the great sports for all Americans. In your 20s and 30s there's nothing like Golf, Bowling and Softball leagues. They allow you to still compete whilst drinking freely.

Both. Takes hand eye coordination and an extreme amount of mental capacity.

And it's the only game where you can be better with a beer.

It's a sport. You need eye hand but you can also improve by strengthening the golf muscles. The more you play the stronger you get and the farther you can hit it. You can learn to shape shots. You can learn to put spin on the ball to make it check. Putting is another animal. Learning how to read a green is something I suck at. But these are all things that can be taught by a professional. If a game needs a professional to coach you up, it then becomes a sport.

How is your length old man? I've probably out on ten pounds since last year, but my length is easy one club up. I think it's because I'm 54. I do a light workout. Do t kill it, but I've lost length. Using a five whee I used a six or seven. Kind of frustrating.

That doesn't mean all people who play golf aren't athletic.. or baseball... or race car driving, putt putt, table tennis, etc - I mean they certainly might be athletic.. and being athletic might help. But these activities aren't exclusive to being athletic, thereby making it a "sport".

Not sure I get the art analogy. Art is subjective and you don't have tournaments/competitions to determine who is the better artist.

Whether Golf is a sport or not, I'd say yes. It's a competition that DOES require athleticism beyond just hand-eye coordination, and it has a defined, black and white definition of who wins (fewest strokes).

You have to develop muscles and skill to do it well? How about competitive eating? That takes a lot of training to do well. What about NASCAR? Is driving a car a sport. Billiards?

No it's not a sport. Sports require you to elevate your heart rate at some point during the event. Baseball is barely a sport, and that amount of activity is the cutoff line.

There will be no argument on this.
