Dangerously Hot Temperatures Expected This Week as Massive Heat Dome Envelops Much of U.S.

A massive dome of high pressure in the upper atmosphere will grip the nation's midsection this week, providing favorable conditions for dangerously hot temperatures.

In parts of the central U.S., heat index values will be up to 110 degrees (locally higher) at times this week. The heat will also spread towards the Northeast late this week into next weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued heat alerts for more than a dozen states in the central U.S.

The effect of the dome encompasses multiple states over a wide area. Most people in that area need to prepare for a hear index of 110 degrees. Some select few in areas of higher humidity and/or temperature might hit 115-120. More specific warnings will be issued for those areas as they are identified. To say that In parts of the central U.S., heat index values will be up to 120 degrees would overstate the potential danger of the heat.

Not in beautiful UpNorthMichigan - 83 degrees and 44% humidity - so it feels like - 83 degrees. Perfect weather, Tigers game on for now and a trip to the dam pond for some fishing later today.

This is minor league.

I was living in Norman OK when we had a hot summer complete with a 90-100 day drought.
It was at least 95 degrees every day from Mother's Day until a week after Labor Day and it was at least 100 degrees for 45 days straight for a stretch in July and August.

It was hot. How hot was it? The predicted rain clouds would show up and the rain would evaporate and go right back into clouds. it was bad enough that any consideration of retiring to the desert in AZ, CA, NM or TX disappeared.

It's brutal. A few days ago it was in the 90s but the humidity was low. It was hot, but it felt pretty great. Now, not so much. I'm going to smell like ballsweat all day.

71 here and beautiful. Supposed to top out at 78 and tomorrow at 73. The last 2 days sucked though, almost broke my no A/C policy.
