Painting a garage with no insulation
Do I need to use exterior paint or will interior paint do the job. I have a couple of gallons of interior that I'd like to put to good use, but if it's just going to peel off, then I'll go grab what will work.

Oh, and why didn't they use to insulate garages back in the day? Was it strictly a cost measure? Seems weak to me, considering how much time most guys spend in the garage piddling around.

I'd go ask a professional for help on the subject.

Tongue-in-cheek, buddy. Menards is where you go if you know exactly what you need. Lowes or Home Depot are the expert spots.

It's times like this that I really miss being able to ask John Kelly at Robert's Wallpaper & Paints. I miss that place. O'Leary has good people, too, but John had a great personality and was always fun to talk with. I wonder what he's doing these days since closing his stores.

I used interior paint a decade ago. Seems fine.

Rip out the drywall, put in insulation, put up new drywall, apply tape/mud, sand, use existing paint.

Damnit, Floyd, that's a great suggestion. Seriously. Thanks. I might do this. Â Thanks.
Edit: Two Thanks in one post. That might be a new record for me.

That's good to know, in case I leave for Menard's to start Floyd's plan but lose steam and enthusiasm in this heat, which could happen as I'm rolling south on 127 passing over Mt.Hope Rd.

Are you painting the interior or exterior of the door?

Both, but I'd planned to use exterior on both sides of that.

What makes you think interior paint will perform like exterior paint simply by putting it on a garage door?

Re: Painting a garage with no insulation
No need to tear out the drywall. Just pop some holes at the top between the studs and have it blown in.
btw...insulating the walls is kinda useless if you don't have an insulated garage ceiling and doors

You're fine with interior paint. As long as it's not getting direct sunlight or rain you shouldn't have any problems.
