What's a soup?
Tell me about soup
I want to make some soup tonight. But I want to try something new, not the same old recipes I've made 20 times. Tell me about your interesting soup recipe. I want to hear it. I yearn for it.
Also if you're going to say chicken noodle or some shit you should probably just not because I'm not going to make some shit that I've already made 20 times. Just so we're clear on that point.

Re: Tell me about soup
Czernina
1 (4 pound) wild duck, whole
4 cups duck blood
8 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 stalk celery, cut into 2 inch pieces
1 sprig chopped fresh parsley
1 cup heavy cream
5 whole allspice berries
2 whole cloves
16 ounces pitted prunes
1/2 cup raisins
1 tart apple - peeled, cored and chopped
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon white sugar
salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Cover whole duck with water in large stock pot. Add salt, and bring to a boil. Skim off foam.
Place celery, parsley, allspice, and cloves in a cheese cloth bag, and add to stock pot. Cover and cook over low heat until meat is tender, approximately 1 1/2 hours.
Remove cheese cloth bag from stock pot. Remove duck. Discard bones, cut up meat, and return to the broth.
Mix in prunes, raisins and apple. Simmer for 30 minutes.
In a medium bowl, beat flour and sugar into cream until smooth. Beat in duck blood gradually. Add 1/2 cup hot soup stock to blood mixture, blending thoroughly. Pour mixture slowly back into stock pot, stirring constantly until soup comes to a boil. Season to taste with salt, pepper, lemon juice and vinegar.

I'm gonna be honest the duck blood is throwing me off a little bit. Maybe I'll just make chicken noodle.

Actually, to be honest with you goose, I'm at her place right now working. Thinking I was going to make some soup while she's out if I can figure out what soup is. I'm pretty sure if I made her duck blood soup she would dump me. Just kidding, but I would have to buy her a pizza. I might as well just buy pizza in the first place in that case.

Well if we're being honest about it - I've not had that soup for years now. Long ago (early 80s) I worked in the Pontiac area and there was a Polish restaurant in downtown Lake Orion that served it, I 1st tried and liked it there. Then many years later I raised ducks and geese for a few years. I tried to make it a couple times then but could never match what I remembered it tasting like.
I was hoping you could make a tasty batch.

I made a kickass ham & bean soup back in December. I can't remember the exact recipe. Look one up online if interested.

Buy a bag of split peas and follow the recipe on the back. I usually add ham or smoked ham hocks.

I don't think it does. But, however much pizza costs hinges on this soup. So like $25 or so. Plus the cost of the soup materials (+/- the $50 I stole out of the register at meijer.)

I'll see what I can do. I've progressed far enough to say "so this Internet thing I sometimes read said this" and "that guy from mio." I have not progressed to "hold on I have to take a picture for my internet friends!"
