Scored another case of Backwoods this evening for $90. Store owner made me swear to not tell any of his employees.

Told a few co-workers about the stuff this week. I'm not selfish. Didn't unload the case I got last night from my vehicle so gave a bottle each to our head IT guy , one of our best project managers, and the president of the company when we were all outside the building late this afternoon enjoying the beautiful day and talking shop. Advised them to chill Backwoods to 45-50° before consumption.y2kMgrad wrote:The Pantry wrote:Scored another case of Backwoods this evening for $90. Back in '77 when I was sitting under the stars hosing a and taking a draw off I would have never guessed that Beer and Whisky would go the way of wine. Nothing really wrong with it just kinda outside the realm of thought then.

A Chinese investment group bought our company a few weeks ago. We were told nothing would change. So far has proved true. Had impromptu late afternoon parties in the executive conference room before and had another today.
Our sales manager is not my type but could be considered hot. She usually orchestrates the last minute parties and bought a wide assortment of beers for today's shindig. Had my first M-43. Been looking for it for months after hearing the hype.
Taste and smell are not bad. Looks the way I'd picture Rouge River water poured in a glass with a little club soda.

Finally picked up some M-43 at D&W tonight. They had it for $15.99 for a 4 pack of cans. I don't know if that's a good price or not (probably not knowing D&W) but it is different than anything I've ever had and very tasty. Almost has a citrusy aftertaste which is fitting because it's color resembles pineapple juice. 5/5 would drink again.

Ended up finding M-43 at a local store day after the company party. Think it was $12.99 for the 4 pack.y2kMgrad wrote:Finally picked up some M-43 at D&W tonight. Hit one place yesterday and was surprised they still had Backwoods Bastard, both in 4-packs and the big bottles. Bought some more.
Have heard Short's 5000 triple IPA is out. Going to try to find some tomorrow.

Picked up a Short's 12-pack of 6 different beers just to try the 5000 triple ale. Stuff is smooth but has a kick to it at 14.6 ABV

Solid time at the Founders breakfast for the 2nd year in a row.
Had a Breakfast Stout, then the Black Rye. They also tapped one keg of CBS. Was quite tasty.
(wasn't Hamm's but it was pretty good).

What's the maximum amount of time for aging that beer?

The label says you can age it for a decade or so.

Corner store just got this so picked up a 6.
Way better than their Java Stout, which I think is awful. Not as good as Kalamazoo Stout.

This is why I'll never achieve total craft beer snob status (not at all implying that you are): I can't make the connection between beer and coffee, or beer and chocolate, or raspberry, or vanilla, etc. Pairing with bourbon was easy to like, because what red-blooded American yute hasn't done boilermakers?

Re: Craft beer
Some are tasty if the brew doesn't go overboard. For instance, Young's Double Chocolate Stout is pretty good but about my limit for added flavor. Bell's makes a cherry stout. Never tried it. It might actually be good but fruity beers don't appeal to me. Coffee, chocolate, and even vanilla make some weird sense in stouts. Porters too, but they are too sweet for me.tGreenWay wrote:This is why I'll never achieve total craft beer snob status (not at all implying that you are): I can't make the connection between beer and coffee, or beer and chocolate, or raspberry, or vanilla, etc. Pairing with bourbon was easy to like, because what red-blooded American yute hasn't done boilermakers?

How much were they charging for a pint of CBS? Apparently they're getting it at Meijer this week but asking $25 for one of those big bottles. I'm not paying that, but I'd get it on draft if it's cheaper and I can find it. Maybe I'll just go to Founders this week for lunch or something.

Saw Blatz at the store a little while ago. Asked the shop owner about it. Said he's had it for months. Guess I just never noticed. Would have bought some for the nostalgia but it only came in 12 packs...didn't want that much nostalgia.

Picked up a couple bottles of 2018 KBS at the corner store little while ago. Owner keeps it behind the counter so it was room temp. Have a bottle chilling in the freezer that I'm about to crack.
While there asked him when he was getting CBS. Looked at me quizzically and said he had it a few months ago and sold me some. Told him he didn't. Have been wanting to try CBS but never have. Put a guilt trip on him that I will reinforce tomorrow in hope of getting a couple more bottles of KBS.

Oades carries Blatz, I believe - though I always pick up Old Styles when I'm there. The Pantry wrote:Saw Blatz at the store a little while ago. Asked the shop owner about it. Stella's in Grand Rapids carries cans of Blatz - if you only want a single can of nostalgia and happen to be in GR.
