Very surprising. Only 56. Any word of health problems on the guy? I haven't paid attention, but that's the only explanation I can think of.

Or there are Mixon type shoes to drop....or Baylor like shoes....another possibility.

I have a friend who is pretty connected to the program. Said Riley will take over and stoops is done because of health reasons and stress. My friend knows the boz pretty well so maybe I'll get some more info tonight.

Apparently not health related. Lots of speculation in the ESPN comments about stuff like Goose mentioned possibly being on the horizon.

Bob Stoops is 56 & has won 10 Big12 titles. I'm told his reasoning for stepping down now is because he's ready & he wants to "go live life."

Damn good coach. Has to be tiring dealing with the bullshit.

Having to explain why the Mixon tapes stayed buried so long might be a nudge towards retirement.

He's bought another Chicago area property adjacent to the one he's owned for about 10 years.

Maybe he's getting ready for a Bears job.
