The True party of Intolerance
Even PBS is waking up to it......
For Trump supporters in Portland, the left is the face of intolerance
For Trump supporters in Portland, the left is the face of intolerance
A month later, in mid-2016, Brown decided to see if there were any Republicans in Portland with whom she could connect. She went to a Multnomah County Republican street fair, where she met a group of women who were immediately receptive. (The county includes the city of Portland and some surrounding suburbs.) “There was plenty of warmth and acceptance,” she said, more than she’d ever felt on the left. “I’m a trans lesbian atheist, and they are conservative Christian. But not one single time has my gender come up, unless I’ve brought it up.”
When Brown came out as transgender in 2013, only two friends stopped speaking to her. When she came out as Republican, soon after her trip to the street fair, she remembered being blocked by roughly 100 people on Facebook, mostly from the LGBTQ community, she said.

In honor of the right being so receptive and tolerant of her, I can think of no way better to thank them than to serve in the military. You know. The ultimate thank you to them and your country.
Oh wait......

What's the point here? That she lost friends who knew she was joining a party that would absolutely do everything they can to harm her and people like her? is that your point?

Re: The True party of Intolerance
There is something to this post. Supposed liberals claiming to value free speech tend not to value free speech at all, and are far more illiberal than liberal.
We see this most often on college campuses or other political events were protestors want to "shut it down" and prevent people from being heard. It is has become very visible. However, not nearly as visible is that this is not a problem limited to supposed liberals, as supposed conservatives attempt to do the same with more subtle and less physical tactics. Example: Turning Point USA's "professor watchlist," which is clearly an attempt to intimidate professors and keep them from saying anything construed as liberal.
I am sure the OP will champion his brethren as protectors of free speech, when the reality is that free speech is under attack from all sides.

Those damned people in Oregon can't get anything correct.
First they won't let a mentally challenged couple keep their children and the sage of Mio has no solutions.
Now this.
How many freakin' things can a convienient conservative get worked up about in a week and always try to look like a victim?

Ask Andrew W.K.: My Dad Is a Right-Wing Asshole by ANDREW W.K.
Hi Andrew,
I’m writing because I just can’t deal with my father anymore. He’s a 65-year-old super right-wing conservative who has basically turned into a total asshole intent on ruining our relationship and our planet with his politics. I’m more or less a liberal democrat with very progressive values and I know that people like my dad are going to destroy us all. I don’t have any good times with him anymore. All we do is argue. When I try to spend time with him without talking politics or discussing any current events, there’s still an underlying tension that makes it really uncomfortable. Don’t get me wrong, I love him no matter what, but how do I explain to him that his politics are turning him into a monster, destroying the environment, and pushing away the people who care about him?
Thanks for your help,
Son of A Right-Winger
Dear Son of A Right-Winger,
Go back and read the opening sentences of your letter. Read them again. Then read the rest of your letter. Then read it again. Try to find a single instance where you referred to your dad as a human being, a person, or a man. There isn’t one. You’ve reduced your father — the person who created you — to a set of beliefs and political views and how it relates to you. And you don’t consider your dad a person of his own standing — he’s just “your dad.” You’ve also reduced yourself to a set of opposing views, and reduced your relationship with him to a fight between the two. The humanity has been reduced to nothingness and all that’s left in its place is an argument that can never really be won. And even if one side did win, it probably wouldn’t satisfy the deeper desire to be in a state of inflamed passionate conflict.
The world isn’t being destroyed by democrats or republicans, red or blue, liberal or conservative, religious or atheist — the world is being destroyed by one side believing the other side is destroying the world. The world is being hurt and damaged by one group of people believing they’re truly better people than the others who think differently. The world officially ends when we let our beliefs conquer love. We must not let this happen.
When we lump people into groups, quickly label them, and assume we know everything about them and their life based on a perceived world view, how they look, where they come from, etc., we are not behaving as full human beings. When we truly believe that some people are monsters, that they fundamentally are less human than we are, and that they deserve to have less than we do, we ourselves become the monsters. When we allow our emotions to be hypnotized by the excitement of petty bickering about seemingly important topics, we drift further and further away from the fragile and crucial human bond holding everything together. When we anticipate with ferocious glee the next chance we have to prove someone “wrong” and ourselves “right,” all the while disregarding the vast complexity of almost every subject — not to mention the universe as a whole — we are reducing the beauty and magic of life to a “side” or a “type,” or worst of all, an “answer.” This is the power of politics at it’s most sinister

Can we just be clear on one thing.... I'm like, 100% positive that goose didn't know who Andrew WK is when he posted that. Now, the thing is, since I'm saying that he's gonna figure out that he should google it and will know now. But since he referenced "the village voice" in his post instead of the author, I'm pretty confident he didn't have a clue.
Also, as a follower of andrew wk on twitter (turtleneck?) I know that he retweets pretty much every time one of his many articles on that site gets mentioned. Even though it is 3 years old, apparently it got picked up in conservative circles in the last week. Undoubtedly why goose found it, without really knowing the message that that dude preaches all the time.

So much irony in these comments, considering the intention the OP had in posting them. Self-awareness is a beautiful thing.

During the 2014 (or 15? Whichever one we were in) final four andrew wk posted a picture of sparty with his famous blood out the mouth thing. That earned a follow from me, but I just sort of have skipped past him since.

I'll say something in response to what they post, either their comments or photos or both. That's generated quite a few to respond back to me. Very brief conversations. I try not to do it often because that would be even more weird than what I'm already doing. One started following me for about a year, making comments and liking pics I'd share. I think she probably stopped because I'm boring AF and didn't really engage her much.

What do you talk about?
I'll say something in response to what they post, either their comments or photos or both. That's generated quite a few to respond back to me. Very brief conversations. I try not to do it often because that would be even more weird than what I'm already doing. One started following me for about a year, making comments and liking pics I'd share. I think she probably stopped because I'm boring AF and didn't really engage her much.
Do you just post pics of your rosebushes and stuff?

Bob only grows dandelions in his yard. He doesn't know squat about beautiful roses.

Turtleneck started it. He could use a fractional ban.
