At Michigan State University, there was no confusion over Title IX guidelines. The university simply did not follow them.

When the Nassar case began to to see the light of day, people said it could get real ugly if the investigation showed who knew, when they knew and what they did about it.
Reading the link it appears knowledge went all the wat to the top including LAKS, the current provost, the dean of MSU's medical school, Hollis, the softball and women's gymnastics coach and the associate AD(s)in charge of those sports.
Regarding the Sec of Ed connection, its common knowledge you don't get approval for any major construction downtown or on GR's "Medical Mile" where MSU Medical School is located without the DeVos family's okay.
Their influence is so great that the DeVos's effectively put the squeeze on major lenders and GR Metro Hospital project just off M6 sat for over 18 months with one wing of structural steel skeleton. The DeVos family is very involved with GR Spectrum which owns Butterworth and Blodget hospitals and wanted to keep competitor Metro stuck in its older, smaller location.
