My TV died last night.
I was watching the Arizona game and the screen just went black. Still have sound, but no picture. Can't get the menu or any other source to show up. It's less than 3 years old. Apparently this was a problem for Samsung models made in 2014-2015. This is the 2nd Samsung I've had die on me. The first one died after about 5 years. I think they have the best picture quality but I'm done buying them. I'll try calling them tomorrow but I'm sure they're going to tell me to kick rocks because it's outside the manufacturers warranty. So fucking frustrating.
Anyway, my question is what do I buy next? Vizio? Sony? I've heard good things about Vizios but I've never owned one. At this point I'm just looking for something that's going to last more than 5 years. I assume I'm too late for Black Friday deals. Any input would be appreciated.

Re: My TV died last night.
My current and previous TVs are Vizio. The older one is like 10 years old. Only replaced it two years ago to upgrade the size but still works. So there's some anecdotal evidence for you.

Ofm and if you have a Costco membership buy from there. Unless the return policy has changed it used to be pretty good.

We bought my mother in law a 55" Vizio last November. It took a dump late October. Called Vizio (100% U.S. based customer service which is awesome). Under warranty, ordered part, sent service guy to her house and he fixed it. Thy extended the warranty another 90 days. Best customer service experience I've ever had. The US based customer service angle will keep me with them forever. Her other Vizio is on 5 years with no problems

Re: My TV died last night.
I've got a 55" Samsung that's about 5 years old as my main tube, never had a problem with it. It replaced an LG that get fried in a lightning storm. Just bought a 55" Element for $279 as my secondary/back up, I have no faith in TV warranties so buy cheap and heave them.

In lieu of flowers, I've set up a gofundme to help out during this terrible time.

If I don't go to Best Buy, how else will I buy a $200 Monster Gold hdmi cord for optimal viewing performance?

Re: My TV died last night.
I have 3 Samsungs and never had a single problem including my 42 inch plasma which was my first HDTV. I was almost hoping the thing would die to justify buying a new one but damn if it doesn't still look really good. I still remember buying that at circuit city for $1400. I thought the bulb was supposed to burn out or something and I was worried about the replacement cost lol. 1080p had just come out and there was one Sony some dude wanted to buy for like $4000.

I would love that, believe me. My wife would kill me though. Our living room isn't very big, so she'd say that "dominates the room." I've always been curious though, where do you put the projector? Does it suspend from the ceiling?

Re: My TV died last night.
It doesn't have to, but mine does. If you don't project from the ceiling or the rear (behind the screen) than you are probably gonna get heads in the way and stuff.

A projector probably doesn’t have the quality picture compared to TVs right?

I have a 55" LG oled. I don't regret it. Best screen I've seen. Just love the fact there is no ghosting and darks work right.

I'm not a videophile, but in general, yeah it gets pretty damn close. The thing is if you run it in a room where there's a lot of light and you have to run it on the brightest setting the lamp won't last as long. Replacement lamps are usually $150-$300.

Y2K probably broke it but he's blaming Samsung for the loss and thinks the company is out to get him.
