Ranking the last 20 Spartan Football teams
1) Dantonio's 2013 team
13-1 with Rose Bowl win over #5 Stanford 24-20
Big Ten champs / Rose Bowl champs finish the season ranked 3rd in MSU's best season since 1966.
2) Dantonio's 2015 team
12-2 with CFP Loss to #2 Alabama 38-0
Big Ten champs again as MSU finishes season ranked 6th.
3) Dantonio's 2014 team
11-2 Cotton Bowl win over #4 Baylor 42-41
MSU finishes season ranked 5th highlighted by stomping of Michigan and a thrilling comeback vs Baylor.
4) Dantonio's 2010 team
11-2 with Citrus Bowl loss to #15 Alabama 49-7
Big Ten co-champs at 7-1 in league. Team had risen to 8-0 and #5 ranking before blowout loss at Iowa. Destroyed by Bama to finish ranked 14.
5) Saban's 1999 team
10-2 with Citrus Bowl win over #10 Florida 37-34
MSU finishes 6-2 in league (tied for 2nd) and in national Top Ten for first time in a decade. Saban leaves for LSU at the end of regular season. Bobby Williams named coach.
6) Dantonio's 2011 team
11-3 with Outback Bowl win over #18 Georgia 33-30 Back to back 11 win season seasons as they are Leaders Division champs but lose B1G Title game to Wisconsin. Finish ranked 10th
7) Dantonio's 2017 team
10-3 with Holiday Bowl win vs #21 Washington State In a bounceback year Spartans defeat ranked rivals UM and PSU while being ranked in top 15.
8) Dantonio's 2008 team
9-4 with Citrus Bowl loss to #16 Georgia 24-12 MSU finishes ranked 24. Spartans beat Michigan for first time in 7 years.
9) Smith's 2003 team
8-5 with Alamo Bowl loss to #22 Nebraska 17-3 Crazy ass John L Smith hired. MSU starts season 7-1 (with brutal loss to Louisiana Tech) and then gives away Michigan and Ohio State games en route to losing 4 of last 5.
10) Williams' 2001 team
7-5 with Silicon Valley Classic win over #20 Fresno State 44-35 Another miracle win over ND and Smoker to Duckett to beat Michigan are highlights
11) Dantonio's 2007 team
7-6 with Champs Bowl loss to #14 Boston College 24-21 Close losses to Ohio State and Michigan (Mike Hart game) and wins over ND and PSU are highlights of Dantonio's first season
12) Dantonio's 2012 team
7-6 with Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl win over TCU 17-16 Team struggles to replace Cousins at QB while losing 5 games by 4 points or less
13) Saban's 1998 team
6-6 (no bowl) Shocked the world as a 17 point under in a win over John Cooper's best tOSU team that was ranked #1. No bowl but this team was loaded. Saban was still learning.

6-7 with Alamo Bowl loss to Texas Tech 41-31 First back to back wins over Michigan since 1960s.
15) Smith's 2005 team
5-6 (no bowl) MSU starts 4-0 and rises #11. Overtime loss to Michigan is catalyst in losing 6 of last 7 games.
16) Williams' 2000 team
5-6 (no bowl) Start 3-0 with Herb Haygood catch and run over ND. Then go 2-6 in the league with blowout win over top ten Purdue only highlight.
17) Smith's 2004 team
5-7 (no bowl) Blowout win over #5 Penn State is high spot in disappointing season capped by getting jobbed at Hawaii while needing a win to become bowl eligible.
18) Dantonio's 2016 team
3-9 (no bowl) Team struggles to replace Cook at QB while off field turmoil overtakes squad
19) Smith's 2006 team
4-8 (no bowl) MSU pisses away ND game in a monsoon and then lose 8 of final 9. Only win in that span is NCAA record 35 point comeback win at Northwestern. Smith fired at season end.

4-8 (no bowl) Ranked in Top 20 first two weeks of season. Team implodes and Bobby fired

Pretty accurate I think. Any changes would be nitpicking among the mediocrities.

No quarrels with the rankings, but I would have picked the best 10 of the last 20 and saved us remembering all of those crappy/mediocre teams.

This is not going to cause an uproar. That Rose Bowl team was still something I'll remember until I don't.

If you really want to get sad/frustrated/pissed think about the top 10 teams from the past 50 years and six of the 10 are going to be Dantonio-coached teams.
I mean outside of 78, 87, 90 and 99 wtf.
