4. Michigan State Spartans
Magic Johnson led Michigan State to its first national title in 1979. Michigan State/Collegiate Images/Getty Images
NCAA tournament appearances: 33
National championships: 2 (2000, 1979)
Final Fours: 9 (2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1979, 1957)
All-time program icon (player): Magic Johnson
All-time program icon (coach): TOM IZZO
NBA players (all time, active rosters): 49
"Wannabe" by the Spice Girls was the No. 1 song the last time Michigan State wasn't playing in the NCAA tournament in March (1997, as if you'd have to look it up). There aren't many programs more universally respected than Tom Izzo's Spartans, and this is a fan base that annually has realistic expectations of a Final Four.

I mean the only other option is Steve Fisher and he was coach when the Ed Martin shit went down. The only other possible option is Bill Frieder and he ended up not being a "Michigan Man".

Fish has a title, and had to approve the baggy shorts (talk about iconic).

Jay Monahan allowed PGA tour players to wear shorts in practice and Pro-Am rounds. He is the most iconic Commissioner in PGA tour history.

Indiana isn't ahead of Michigan in that? Strange. i mean I guess the fab five put a stamp on college basketball, and frankly the world with the baggy shorts and black shoes. That's not debatable. I was an A.D. during that time. My god, I had to dump uniforms and order long baggy shorts or I'd have been killed by kids and parents too. The fab five was like the fucking beetles. Kids worshiped them. But I still like the candy cain stripes and tradition of Indiana basketball. Whatevs.

Dave Rozema delivered the best karate kick that ended his own career ever. Therefore he is the most iconic pitcher ever. FTR Larry Herndon was good at fighting. So was Richie Hebner. Jesus there were alot of punches landed. Not like these pussy millennial fake baseball fights now.

Iowa’s Ron Hawley once tackled the goalpost at Spartan Stadium, making him the most iconic DB ever.

Let the old man be wbh. He’s had a long and difficult life and it can be hard to hold on to details at the point. Let him live his fantasy. It’s not hurting anyone.

What's puzzling to me is that UCLA isn't on the list. You would think they would be top 5 for sure. Iconic coach probably Steve Lavin.

What is a joke is VTech being on the list. Isn't this like their first S16?

Richie Hebner worked out in the offseason digging graves. With his bare hands. Therefore he is also the most inconic gravedigger in history.

I nominate Michael Avenatti as runnerup. Every time he opens his mouth, he digs his own grave a little deeper.

Cool story alert. I played in a golf outing with former Tiger pitcher Tom Timmerman about 15 years ago. Tom was on that 72 team. He told me Campy never even really was involved in the brawl after he threw the bat. He pretty much threw the bad and headed straight for the clubhouse.
Campy didn't stop there. he went right to the street and jumped in a cab. In uniform.
Smart move as that Tiger team was not one you wanted to brawl with. Frank Howard, Willie Horton, Bill Freehan, Crazy Norm Cash, Duke Simms, Gates and Ike Brown. the Tigers didn't win the series but they surely would have kicked their ass in a fight.

the video doesn't show it but Hebner ( the hacker as George Kell used to call him) kicked that guys ass from the first base pretty much to the 325 sign in right field.
