Re: State of the Union
I suspect that those who watch the mainstream media will hear about how "presidential" the racist, bigoted sexual predator sounded. How he "reached out""to Democrats.. took on a "more gentle tone".

Maxine Waters couldn't waste her time to go listen to the Trump, but she can waste it giving an 'unofficial' rebuttal on BET. Should be entertaining, if you like bat shit crazy.Travis of the Cosmos wrote:I.B. Fine wrote:Can we get a poll going?
Who's tuning to BET to watch Maxine explain how evil Trump is after the SOTU?
What the fuck is this
I think the Dems have at least 3 separate responses

I heard that the racist, bigoted sexual predator demonized mean, scary brown people.
I'm assuming he also demonized the terrorist attacks in Las Vegas and at his white supremacist rally in Charlottesville?

I’m not sure that that’s really the goal in that speech. Like I said yesterday, there’s a reason why they have to go with someone that isn’t running in 3 years.Rocinante wrote:Nothing he said changed my mind about him. So i guess good job?

I’ve heard a lot of talk about him as a presidential candidate in 20. Maybe the plan is for later, I don’t know. He definitely seems to be a card carrying neoliberal.

Whoever that talk is from is probably from lazy people who really didn’t think that through very much and just sorta liked the speech.Rocinante wrote:I’ve heard a lot of talk about him as a presidential candidate in 20. Re: State of the Union
Bernie still the man screaming the truth in the wilderness.
Bernie wrote:But what President Trump failed to mention is that his first year in office marked the lowest level of job creation since 2010. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 254,000 fewer jobs were created in Trump’s first 11 months in office than were created in the 11 months before he entered office.
Further, when we talk about the economy, what’s most important is to understand what is happening to the average worker. And here’s the story that Trump failed to mention tonight.
Over the last year, after adjusting for inflation, the average worker in America saw a wage increase of, are you ready for this, 4 cents an hour, or 0.17%. Or, to put it in a different way, that worker received a raise of a little more than $1.60 a week. And, as is often the case, that tiny wage increase disappeared as a result of soaring health care costs.
Meanwhile, at a time of massive wealth and income inequality, the rich continue to get much richer while millions of American workers are working two or three jobs just to keep their heads above water. Since March of last year, the three richest people in America saw their wealth increase by more than $68 billion. Three people. A $68 billion increase in wealth. Meanwhile, the average worker saw an increase of 4 cents an hour.

Re: State of the Union
I realllllly hope he doesn’t run and that there is a different candidate with a different name who is exactly like him in every way to pick from. I’m concerned about the trump like rabidness of his super fans who won’t accept anyone else even if they are the same fuckin thing (as noted by otpts once every 6 months post on the bin.)
But all of that is still really a long way off and I’m frankly far more concerned with winning the house back.

His major qualification being carrying the last name Kennedy.
For a party that supposedly champions equality of opportunity they do like their political dynasties.
Just in MI - Dingells, Levins, Conyers, Kirkpatrick, Kildee, etc. etc, etc.....and all over the nation.

He didn’t shit on himself like others have and the best the bots that you loyally follow can do is some chapstick. That’s literally all that matters in that speech.LooseGoose wrote:Rocinante wrote:I’ve heard a lot of talk about him as a presidential candidate in 20. Maybe the plan is for later, I don’t know. Then you’re thinking too hard. You’re actually doing the opposite of not listening. You’re trying to project things that aren’t really there. Settle down. Go win some house seats in November.Rocinante wrote:I'm not listening because it indicates to me where the party is headed and I don't like it.

Re: State of the Union
Travis can't see the forest for the trees. There's no unifying principle in the Democratic Party. There's nothing that really sets them apart from the Trump agenda. They may well take control of one or both houses this year, but Trump could easily get reelected if they don't stop this right center nonsense. He's got the bully pulpit, he's got an economy that's chugging along (even if the majority of workers are still getting screwed). What can they offer that's better?

Re: State of the Union
This is mostly nonsense. Actually, the problem isn’t that I can’t see the forest from the trees. The problem is that you are worried about the horizon while the sun is still not even close to half way around the other side of the world. Focus on the forest roc. Or whatever.Rocinante wrote:Travis can't see the forest for the trees. There's no unifying principle in the Democratic Party. There's nothing that really sets them apart from the Trump agenda. Who is they? I have no idea. I donated a bunch of money to winning local house races. Is “they” doing something? Frankly I don’t care. Go worry about Idaho or whatever.
