Re: Stormy suing Trump
I really hope Elizabeth Warren, or Bernie don't run. And I'm not talking about their views. As much as it pains me to say this, they are a pain in the ass to the left side of the political spectrum because of time in ofice and fatigue factor. As much as that's wrong, and as much as I personally disagree with it, there is a wide portion of people in America that will not or could not vote for them based solely on that. My point is, I don't know that they are electable. This partially goes to Bob's point about how dumb a ton of Americans are. And maybe I'm one of them. However, I believe that if you got a candidate, new and not a retread, who has many of their same political points and believes in may of their same issues and they push them, some of the peole who wouldn't vote for Warren or Sanders would vote for the "new" guy or girl, just because they were the new guy or girl. Dumb yes, but I am skeptical about how people percieve other people .

Bernie is polling really well and I anticipate he'll be in the mix. My problem with him is he's very divisive. His fans supporters can't compromise when he loses and they cry foul. It's very divisive and destructive to the goal of trying to win an election. I hear what you are saying though. I saw a panel discussion on Real Time with Gavin Newsom on where Bill was talking about how 2020 is his golden opportunity to run. He's got experience but isn't to the point where he has 'baggage'.

I'd be fully onboard for him as VP though. Can you be in the middle of suing the guy you're running against? In court by day, campaign at night?

Funny after reading your post about experience and the office I was like he'd be a great advisor or vp. I watch him on Twitter the guy has balls. He's begging to go on Hannity or Tuckers show to debate Giulliani and they won't let him on and for good reason. He'd destroy him in a debate and destroy all of his ridiculous assertions. This is the reverse of how it usually runs it's usually the Fox heads calling other people too afraid to come on their show. I also read that it was leaked that Trump is envious of the guy and was asking 'why can't we get a guy like that?'.

I saw a pundit recently comment that anyone considering running if they can't fill a stadium with out Oprah, Beyonce, Magic Johnson, Bruce Springsteen etc showing up then they shouldn't run. Sadly, I agree with that. There's a short list of potential candidates that can draw a crowd to pack an arena for the dems: Michelle Obama, Bernie Sanders and possibly Joe Biden. There's the others Oprah (I doubt she will run), the Rock (would run as an R) and Michael Aventi...they could pack arenas. I can't see Warren, Harris or Yates packing an arena. I fully agree with you and dendrobates on wanting a qualified person but I can also see why pundits like Silver and Podhoretz have projected some of the celebs having a shot to win.

Well here's the thing Bob, no candidate including Bernie can convert the morons that believe Russian propaganda. Fortunately, a democratic candidate doesn't need to convert any republicans to win the election. A democratic candidate simply needs to be inspiring enough to get democrats to the fucking voting booths.
Since we all already know from the last election that Bernie is as squeaky clean as politicians come, I really don't see how Russians would be able to inflict any damage at all to Bernie's base which is an extremely passionate group on the left, and the rest of the democratic base will fall in line.
Sure Russia spread propaganda far and wide to damage Hillary, and likely manipulated voting systems of those they hacked into. But I would argue the main reason she ended up losing is because she pissed off a bunch of progressives by running a dirty campaign against Bernie, and just wasn't an inspiring candidate, causing a lot of potential democrat voters to stay home. The election should have been a landslide victory for her if she didn't run such a shit campaign, which would have made it impossible to hack and throw the election for Trump without it being incredibly obvious.

Re: Stormy suing Trump
I agree with this. I wasn't for or against Bernie, but what pissed me off was that the Democratic Primary and Party kind of pushed everyone to the side to make room for Hillary. If Hillary was the best candidate, then let things play out, don't try to manipulate the process. The Republicans did one thing right, and that was letting the process play out. They didn't favor Jeb at the beginning because he was the heir apparent. Is it going to hurt their 'brand'? We'll see.AnomanderRake wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:Russian bots and the mainstream media demonized Hillary's email account.

Had the Democrats looked like things were done on the up and up, I think things would've ended up differently and more on the left would have accepted Hillary as the candidate, had it not seemed like the party was protecting her.

Hopefully, one good thing that might come out of the Orange Moran experience is that people need to vote, even when candidates don't blow their skirt up. Republicans have been good at getting their "base" out to vote (guns, Jesus, abortion, & brown people). Dems not so much.
The "none of the above/they all suck so I'll sit this one out" excuse is not gonna cut it because one team is gonna turn out to vote for their guys/gals no matter how despicable they are.

Yeah, 2016 was a tough lesson for me. I sat out a lot of local elections and midterms. I turned that around. I've voted for the town librarian, all the school board votes and so on since then. The turnout for these elections is pretty low, getting 10 - 20 of your friends out to vote in these elections can make a difference. Also, for the dem primary this year voting was up 70% in my district. The republican that represents us is toast.

I was in the same boat. I will never miss an opportunity to vote for anything again. Especially when it's so easy to vote by mail. Funny thing is, I used to lean Republican before the Tea Party insanity started.

If progressive values weren't more in line with American values, why do Republicans attempt to suppress the vote with voter ID laws, closing polling precincts, gerrymandering, etc?
