Move to Northern CA?
Old State roommate recently offered me a job working with him flipping houses . It sorta makes sense. He knows the market there. We both have residential building experience. His is more renovations. I prefer ground up but like learning old building materials/techniques and how to adapt them to new materials.
Would be a major life change. Lived in Michigan all my life.

I’m going to be negative Nancy here. Sacramento area is meh. If it’s lateral financially don’t bother. I miss the Great Lakes in the summer every. goddamn. day.

Got the same review about Sacramento from my wife. She was there for the first time a few weeks ago and came back saying it’s just a sad, nothing city. But, on the upside, she did mention it had more than the usual number of street beggars, so that’s a real draw.

That's the beautiful thing. Out there you can buy raw dairy right out of the grocers cooler.LooseGoose wrote:Go for it. I can hook you up with some nice dairy ladies in Redding.

Sad and nothing as compared to what? The climate's pretty good and it's famed for its trees-urban forest. It's very close to SF, the wine country and one of my favorite areas - the Gold Rush Country. I bet it has more cultural amenities, fine restaurants etc. than where you live.tGreenWay wrote:Rocinante wrote:I’m going to be negative Nancy here. Sacramento area is meh. Cultural amenities, it depends on how it’s defined. The other stuff, he’ll yeah it has more. It’s California. I’d rather live in TC than Sacramento any day.

Other than East Lansing. Other than grand river filled with mostly chain restaraunts, MSU’s campus, some wooded areas... it seems pretty average. No offense, to EL people because there are worst places to live in MI, obviously.

Re: Move to Northern CA?
I like it here. I have a nice house in a nice neighborhood. The kid is graduating this year, but going to MSU - so it'll be nice to see her every now and then. I have a good job, my wife has a good job. I love the Michigan weather - I love my local hangouts. Love being able to walk most everywhere I go.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:why I wouldn't live in northern CA or why I wouldn't live too many places other than East Lansing?

Nice to live in a place with a small town feel while still living basically across from a Big Ten university... live pretty close to a couple of cool cities, some nice airports. Easy access to traveling out when I need/want to.

To the OP go out there visit for or a week or two. You’ll figure out if you want to move or not. It’s a great state. It’s pretty expensive and really over populated in a lot of areas which can bring on a lot of stress. There’s a lot of good though that outweighs the negatives.

Walking cities are great. That’s how I’ve operated my entire adult life.

It could be an adventure.
Serious questions: Where is NoCal and where are you going to live?

Is the border of NoCal as heavily disputed at the border to up north? Which is obviously Clare.

Good suggestion. Smart to visit first, long enough to really get a feel of the area.

NoCal like Siicon Valley / SF / Oakland (expensive as hell)
It would be cool to work with a friend but where you live and what housing you can arrange would be the deal breaker.

One of the most fertile agricultural areas in the world. Only a couple hours to beautiful Lake Tahoe.Space Lord wrote:Sad and nothing as compared to what? You don't hit the southern most point of Michigan's up north until at least Gaylord and the 45th parallel.Watch Out Pylon! wrote:Is the border of NoCal as heavily disputed at the border to up north? Which is obviously Clare.
Anything north of Sacramento could be considered NoCal.

Re: Move to Northern CA?
He has a pretty significant net worth. Owns a number of rental properties in Sacramento and Yuba City. Bought a couple beautiful properties in YC 5-6 years ago that he has been taking his time renovating. One sits on over an acre with some large redwoods. He and his wife plan on moving in when it's finished. The other is a Tudor on 3/4 acre. He refers to it as "World Headquarters" for if/when I move out there. Decent salary plus free housing.GRR Spartan wrote:NoCal like Siicon Valley / SF / Oakland (expensive as hell)

Seems like a no-brainer but I have reservations moving away from my kids.

I don’t have any illusions when it comes to comparing EL to anywhere else, but it’s home, and there’s enough going on to keep me engaged.
As for sad Sacramento, I’ll ask Mrs. GreenWay this weekend and get back to you.
