Seriously, would you drive one of these?
If you were a self-respecting middle-aged guy
Would you be caught dead driving one of these things?

Maybe that was your future husband I saw driving one this morning. He'd be quite a catch.

When I graduated college and could finally afford a new car, there were a few choices in small cars: Ford Escort, Chevy Chevette, Dodge Omni, Renault Alliance, etc.
What do I do? Make the mistake of buying the biggest POS car ever manufactured, the Renault Appliance, aka, the rolling toaster. Never again.

People who drive that car are the people who stop at Green lights to let pedestrians cross the street

Re: If you were a self-respecting middle-aged guy
After I graduated from MSU and secured my first decent paying job I went out spent way more than I could afford on a car. I proudly went over to show my uncle (who was more of a grandfather) my prize purchase. He was not very impressed and simply offered this sage advice "In the end, a car is just a way to get from one place to another."
He was right. And those words have stuck with me.
No, it would not be my first choice of a car, but I would not feel ashamed to be seen driving it.
The money we spend on cars and the value we place on them in our lives really is quite silly.

I just bought a new 2014 Honda Odyssey EXL and it rules. It's white with an MSU license plate and I bought some Spartan magnets for game day. It seats 8 or I can take the seats out and load it up with gear and sleep in it. Blue tooth, XM, 2 cameras, moon roof, push button start, push button rear doors opening and hatch, heated leather seats, moon roof. Consumer Reports ranked it the #1 mini-van and it only cost about $31,000.

He would have grown up during the great depression, so his idea of fun probably did not include spending more than you could afford on a car.

I didn't mind buying my new Odyssey because I bought my CRV in 2000 for $21,000, drove it for 14 years and sold it for $4,000. That works out to just about $100 per month.

Not necessarily, if you have a passion for cars. I find the hobby/passion to really add to my life, and I find the morning drive and road-trips to be a joyful experience..

Re: If you were a self-respecting middle-aged guy
If one is interested I'd suggest getting out on the highway before you decide. I recall many moons ago pulling an early version Smart car out onto 75 for work,. The feeling of a Camry going by and relatively looking like a Stegosaurus, much less the of the underside of an 18 wheeler, had me end that drive and the next exit.

Minivans rock. Definitely a case of substance over style.
Doesn't Honda have stow away seats yet though?

My 2005 Odyssey has stow away rear seats.
Agree on minivans. Love getting the six of us into that thing for a road trip back north. Yeah, that's right bitches, I'm a family nerd, what of it?
Re: If you were a self-respecting middle-aged guy
I'd have no problem with it, if I lived in an urban area which I do and parking can be a problem and if I had another car like a truck or something else to drive. Since I am a one car person I have been happy with my chevy Malibu.
It's not too small or too big gets good gas mileage and while it isn't a sports car or truck, it's not a honda accord nor toyota camry or POS Japanese car.

I'd rather have a bullet in my fivehead than drive a minivan. Jesus knew this, which is why we weren't made parents.
