Took about a 13 mile mid-afternoon bike ride down the Clinton River trail. Hot as balls, sweat my ass off, felt great.

Yep. Track workout this morning at ELHS. Hot, pretty thick out - lots of sweat, but cleansing.
I miss winter already.

The Pantry wrote:Off the subject. Your rig has a generator, right? The fridge in my old pop-up ran off AC, DC, or propane. Oddly, it would only achieve decent coldness when running on propane. Was weird having to light a pilot to get the thing cold.LooseGoose wrote:
lol....perhaps. We were cooking and hanging outside and letting the kids run wild. They had much more fun than the adults did so there's that.
Unfortunately where we were had very little breeze, we had planned to come home today anyway so only chopped a few hours off. I'm
damned lucky in that I usually have a breeze and tons of shade. I've never run an AC here and really only have 3-4 days a year when I'm
even tempted.
Yes, it has a 7K generator. I don't like running them, doesn't feel like camping. Fridge is 3 way - 12V/110V/LP.

btw Bob...that hypothetical question I mentioned a few weeks ago but didn't ask.
You're a North Carolina boy. Had you lived during the Civil War, would you have fought for the Union or Confederacy?

Meh - I just enjoy chuckling at stupid folks.. ya know, 'cause I ain't exactly the sharpest knife in the tanning bed myself.
I remember you wanting to ask a question.. hard to answer, I guess. Obviously, being the worldly person I am now, it's easy to pretend to be sanctimonious and give the "right" answer. However, what would I have done 200+ years ago given what I would imagine would be the limited information I likely would have had access to? Hard to say..
Good question. Why do ya ask?

Told ya I wasn't very bright.
I answered the question with basically "I don't know". If you'd like me to make something up, I can likely do that for ya.

Re: Memorial Day Weekend 2018
If your family was from the coastal or mountain region you most likely would have favored staying loyal to the constitution. If not you might have fought with the confederacy. However at one point the state passed a series of laws saying if you were between 15-49 and didn’t fight with the confederacy you could be put to death, so who knows how you’d react. North Carolina didn’t immediately bolt from the union after Fort Sumter. When Lincoln asked for 75K troops they did. So, I doubt you would know which side you’d be on. It’s a tough thing and it was a weird state when it came to choosing sides. And about 20% ended up deserting the confederacy once they joined.

If I’d been forced under penalty of death to fight for the rebs, I would’ve faked pulling the trigger and just made very realistic shooting sounds.

I knew a guy in the Air Force who said he basically rented equipment (tennis racquets, etc) at the fitness center on base.
I could've done that.
Wonder if they had an Air Force and, subsequently, fitness centers during the civil war?

Was at red rocks last weekend and will be back this weekend. I dig me some shows there, it’s a great place to see some music bob. I hung around denver, it was nice and quiet around town with the mountains always being too crowded this weekend. That’s why you go camping the weekend after!

And, of course, I'll chuckle at the fine folks who don't know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Went to the Detroit Zoo yesterday for the first time since my kids were little, so a very long time. That was an interesting experience in people watching.
Going to hike/walk 4-6 miles at Stoney today, watch some more people at the beach there, and then add to the ozone layer depletion by BBQing some chicken over charcoal.

Besides the nap part, sounds like a good day. Enjoy, Bob. You certainly earned some Bob time after all the hard work you do for tSwill. Also, please walk over to GreenWay’s pad and unplug his Internet.

I was just thinking we don't go very often anymore now that my kids are getting bigger. It makes me a bit sad.

There's a lot of really cool diversity at the zoo. I didn't mean it sound negative if it did.

No, I was just curious. Seems like you go to the zoo to animal watch not people watch.
What did you think of the new "Global Warming Propaganda Exhibit" as Girbaud Jeans' brother calls it. Aka the Penguin House.

The Penguin House was the thing I was most interested in, because for a dozen years I knew the guy who paid for it, having worked his family's company. It was kind of disappointed in it. I didn't walk away with a global warming propaganda feeling. I guess in hindsight I can see a bit of it, if he's talking about the stormy walk down to the lower level.
Didn't see any tigers or bears, just a lion. Oh, my.
ps. people are animals, too.

Took some time off to travel up to the Traverse City area last week. Hiking was almost non-existent. The black flies were fucking horrible. We did get to the top of Sleeping Bear Dunes one day though. The kiddo thought it was the biggest sandbox ever. Fun times.

We almost went to stony yesterday. We decided against it thinking the line would just be too crazy.
We like taking our dog there, as there is an area where people let their dogs swim around. It makes for one tired and happy golden.

Got there at 11 and the east beach lot was like 70% full. Left at 2:15 with the lot being 99% full and the line to get into the park on Shelby was 1/2 mile long and four lanes wide.

Re: Memorial Day Weekend 2018

Not feeling the patriotic surge many do on Memorial Day ...
My thinking this year is about the idiots who start wars against allowing people to have basic rights, such as our "friend" Putin this year, and all the people who then end up dying to defend the countries which allow those rights, much like my two Uncles who died in the Union Army in the War of Rebellion.
What a waste of life by people who want to rule the world.
All of that said, I remember a Memorial Day Parade in about 1998, when Gus the Trapper, my father, was visiting. Gus the Trapper was a Recon Sargent in World War 2 who was in Europe on the front lines from February 1945 until the end of the War in Europe and part of the US units which met the Russians.
It was a cold rainy day in 1998, and we were all sitting huddled under umbrellas as the bands and the color guard marched up to the cemetery, where we sat, and, as the color guard marched towards us Gus the Trapper, 18 months before his death, stood up, took his hat off as the cold rain fell on his old head and watched the color guard march by....
Peace
