O/T Tired of being scammed.

Long story short, looking for a place to live for a few months in NYC while I do my internship. Looking for places has been frustrating because every potential place has turned out to be a scam. I didn't lose any money, I just wasted time. Case in point, this morning the place I was investigating turned out to be a storage space. Anyways, does anyone have any tips about finding legit spots in NYC that are not scammers?

Hate to sound so basic, but doesn't CL work in NY?

Nice place, a little out of my price range. I really would like to stay someplace in Manhattan, been eyeing Harlem.

Shelters are free. On the downside you have to be there before they fill up.

Manhattan + $1500/mo being out of your price range?

I'm finding some decent apartments in Harlem for that range, at least on the surface they appear to be decent. If I stay in NYC and get a job, then I would go $2,000 a month for a place, maybe a little higher. But for an internship, I have to keep my stuff limited.
