Re: Automotive Sales
Dog eat dog business.
In Detroit Metro area the car salesmen are union members and dealerships are closed Saturday and Sunday.
Back in the day when the Detroit 3 (formerly The Big 3) had more employees with higher wages and less enforcement of family purchase plans it was a great job for established sales people who had a client list of people who would buy a new car (then pick-ups) every 1 or 2 years for decades.
Now more than ever dealerships hire new sales people like Amway reps. They want you to sell to everyone you know and when you burn through family and friends they dump you for the next person.
That comes from a family member who made a very nice 35 year career selling Fords at a Detroit dealership starting in the late 60's. He was a Wayne State grad, entry level accountant whose small firm did taxes for several car salespeople and some dealer sales managers. Saw how much they were making, talked to a manager, quit his accounting job he had for 2-3 years, started selling Fords and never looked back.
