Tax Day Looming. Any Ballers Sitting Pretty?
I haven't done ours yet, but I'm apprehensive. A lot of people I know have had a huge shock when they've done theirs. From those who normally get a decent refund now having a massive bill, to those (like me) who normally come out about even (because we claim correctly on our w-4) having a moderate to high bill.
Since it's getting close to tax day, have you done your taxes, and how did it turn out?
This is not meant to be political, everybody pretty much knows how everybody feels about politics. I'm just looking for numbers? Do you feel like you got screwed? Doing well?
What?

Turbotax said I'm getting in the neighborhood of 1000 back between state and federal.
I don't know how close turbotax comes to getting me my best refund, but after hearing how much some of my friends paid for tax prep this year, I stand by my decision to cheap out.

Probably my last year of getting a sweet refund. $1700 or so. Straight on the student loans

We get money back, but it was $2500 less than last year. My check only went up around $5. We had $4k more in deductions, but fell $2k short of the new standard deduction. That and my bonus being $7k less means no trip to Michigan this year and probably putting off the bathroom remodel another year.

I’m repeating myself, but the financial discipline you show is noteworthy. I sure as hell didn’t have your strong will at a similar age. It’s going to pay off for you in the long run.

I still need to file an amended return that will net me a little over $200. How long can I put this off?

Not sure what that means, but I'm glad you took the time to care. Any luck with the $40 in scratch offs this week?

I got some credit for my kid going to LCC....$2500 more then I planned. Woo.
Now I can knock the credit card down to reasonable... I live a baller life. Be jealous.

If I had to guess, I'd bet Tito is one of those "Cracking the Code"/Lost Horizons guys.

It's ok, you can just call me cheap
I get it from my dad's side of the family. We definitely fit the Dutch stereotype. Drives the women in our lives crazy but I'm proud of it. Paid off for them and it's gonna pay off for me too.

I just basically go into my accountants office and get into a fetal position. Not because I’ll owe a lot, just because I’m so fucking poor.

Re: Tax Day Looming. Any Ballers Sitting Pretty?
Had to do ours right away in early feb for the IBR student loans.
We usually end up owing a couple grand the past few years. Somehow got 5k back. For us, the increase standard deduction helped us, since we can’t itemize over 24k. I wish those less fortunate than me came away the same. They need it more than I do.
I used the money to pay down some debt.

Got a lump sum payment that was supposed to be for the 1st half of this year, assholes posted it 12/31/18, pushing us up a tax bracket.
