So...I retold this to my sister and my faux BIL tonight. My thing is - I hate superhero shit. I probably wouldn't have started this series if I knew it was superhero shit. I found the first 4-5 episodes entertaining, but frustrating as fuck, because I had no clue what was going on. I was ready to give up. But I kept on. Finally when I got to E7 or so, I was like Ok, I get it and this is intriguing. And then....BLAM. I had to wait 2 days to watch the finale because of family and NYE and all of that shit and it was all I wanted to do all day and all night. And I watched it and fucking hell, despite my better senses, I cannot wait to see what happens in S2.
A second season isn't for sure going to happen. Lindelof hinted at this being just a standalone season. But then again you'd think HBO would have marketed it like they did Chernobyl if that was the case. Who knows at this point.
Lindelof said if he cracks a great story then he'll do more. I'm fine with it either way. Season 1 was fucking near-perfect.

Watched Red Joan, Booksmart, and Blinded by the Light over the holidays. All three were pretty good for smaller films.

I came across this thing from 2017 on Netflix with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda, "Our Souls at Night". What a low-key pleasant surprise.

Decided to give Messiah on Netflix a chance. One of the most interesting premises I've seen a while. Would recommend.

I just finished the office. Previously did parks and rec. I need another 30 min show that I can switch to and watch with Kyle.

If you like those two, you'd probably like The Good Place and Superstore. Both are on Hulu.
Greenway's recs are good too.
I'll also mention Last Man on Earth, Malcolm in the Middle, and Scrubs, if you haven't seen them.

Dude. No brainer. Kyle is a pimp. Dial up S3 of the Simpsons. Do you have be D+? All of the inappropriate shit is still ten feet over my 10 yo's head but he gets a lot of the humor and both kids think it's great because it's animated and they are plenty of laughs even if you don't get exactly what's going on. Plus it's absolutely hysterically for grownups if you follow the nuances.

I've watched all of AD, I thought about Curb but I know language can be a thing. Where is Community, I'd love to watch that again. IASIP, I've tried once or twice and maybe just didn't get it.tGreenWay wrote:InTenSity wrote:I just finished the office. Previously did parks and rec. Where is Scrubs and MitM streaming at? I wonder if Scrubs would hold up. I've watched a few episodes of The Good Place, and wanted to see Superstore, but could never really find it.If you like those two, you'd probably like The Good Place and Superstore. Both are on Hulu.

Simpsons is probably a pretty good option, although I don't really want him watching it.
So, funny story, if you've made it this far. Last year we did a couple of trips, but some of them we didn't take Kyle. My wife's Aunts, who watch him, said that he would go to Netflix on his tablet and start watching The Office. The other day my daughter sends me a picture and he is playing the same game on his tablet that I play on his tablet, or he is at least trying. Its very interesting to me, how he latches on to these things.

Community, Scrubs, Last Man on Earth, and Malcolm in the Middle are all currently on Hulu.
And Scrubs definitely holds up. For my money, it might be the greatest sitcom ever made.

Million Dollar Arm was okay. Into The Joker now and it’s really interesting so far. I’m not really a Joaquin Phoenix fan but he’s doing an excellent job.

The story threw me off a little because I didn’t realize Joker’s backstory would be rewritten compared to previous movies. (I pay no attention to Marvel or DC.) For example, Thomas Wayne being so different in this movie compared with his character in the Christian Hale Batman movies.

I was okay with the movie, mostly because it showed how Joker got the way his is. You’re right, Phoenix’s performance was remarkable. As I mentioned previously, I’m not a fan of his, but damn if he didn’t nail this character. I was skeptical because of how brilliant Heath Ledger was, but Phoenix was even more believable w/o makeup than pretty boy Ledger would have ever been. Although Ledger would look pretty gruesome if they dug him up right now.
p.s. sorry, Ozzie.

Just to nerd out real quick. There is no official joker origin story, or there are tons of them. None of them the same. There was a book I read a long time ago, joker stories or something like that, probably 5 origin stories. What I got off of the movie is that the joker origins come from the current societies flaws.

TBH, the only thing I remember from the Nicholson Joker is his about about the town needing an enema.

You ever see an ad for a show and think "there's no way I'm going to like that" but then give it a try and you do actually like it? That's Mrs. Maisel for me.
Kind of like that time I tried dates.

I think you hit it on the head, it made sense and they wrapped it up OK, but the whole season seemed disjointed to me. Maybe that's part of the genius.
