People not happy with new MHSAA Seeding for HS basketball

The MHSAA came out with their new basketball tournament brackets.

It as supposed to use a power ranking so the 2 best teams in a district don’t face each other in the first round.

But someone flunked bracketology. The MHSAA has the #1 seed playing the #5 seed on the first night so the #1 seed has to win 3 games to win the district.

Typically the #4 and #5 seeds would be in the first night’s game with #1 seed playing the winner of the game between the lowest seeds and the #2 & #3 seeds to determine the district final.

Depends on how many teams are in the bracket. It was still a blind draw for how the brackets were set up. #1, #2, and then the rest were drawn alphabetically. They did all the math just seed all the teams.

This is not a surprise. It's been set up this way since summer.

I have a family member who is a HS official. This wouldn't be the first time the MHSAA gets things approved by their membership and when its time to start enforcing what's been approved coaches start understanding and disliking what was approved.

Well most coaches are dumb so there's that. They should have paid more attention. Ive known how my district would look since Christmas although the 2 seed was pretty close. I personally don't care for the way it's being run, but it's the first step in seeding the whole district which could easily be done and needs to be done.
